The brake warning light can come on if the parking brake is engaged. The light can also go on of the brake fluid level is low. You may want to unplug the level sensor and see if that makes the light go out. Or you can unplugged the parking brake switch and see if that makes the light go out.

I am unsure what may also trigger the light to come on.

The fluid is full, and it stays on when the parking brake is down, but i will try unplugging the fluid level sensor and parking brake switch and see what happens

Have you checked your rear brake pads?

Yes but not by design, it just happens due to the caliper being pushed in. I've seen it happen. Just have a look, its not that hard.

Makes sense... As the pads wear and the caliper piston screws in, it would put tension on the brake cable. I guess it would depend on how the switch on the E-brake itself is configured in the system.

alright so i changed the rear pads and rotors cause they looked like they needed a change anyways, but after the change the brake warning light is still ON, im out of ideas on what it might be! Does anyone know any other reasons why the brake warning light may come on? Im stumped!

okay so i figured out when i turn the ignition switch to the ON position the brake warning lamp does not illuminate like all the other idiot lights, but once i start the car it turns on and stays light.

Do i have a short ground somewhere or is it something else?

I was thinking maybe something is wrong with my ABS system, like a wheel speed sensor or something but, my ABS light is not on, or would that only come on when i start to drive the car?

Any help would be great

I had this problem and it was not the switch at the parking brake lever or the sensor. It turned out that one of my rear brake calipers was partially frozen. If you cannot park the car on a slight incline with just the parking brake to hold your car then you may have this problem.

The other could be a bad ABS sensor? Does the ABS sensor warning light come on too?

No its just the brake light, no abs light.

What do you mean exactly? Was your piston inside the caliper partially frozen?

I'd be checking if the sensor operates normally open or closed, too lazy to check the wsm, where I assume it's mentioned - but bridging the plug and seeing if the light extinguishes might be the other alternative.

Yeah, ive already done that.

I checked the continuity of the the sensor like it says to do in the workshop manual and according to my digital multimeter the sensor is working correctly, but i have not tired bridging the plug yet

I have the same problem with my 91 convertible - to make the brake light go off I have to turn the ignition key back (counter clockwise) just a small amount when the car is running -

Works every time
