Brake upgrades

I really like the OEM look, on anycar. Is there any kind of brake caliper that fits the 3d with "mazda" on the actual caliper? I think that looks so great on cars...

I'm confused. Are you actually asking if there's an aftermarket brake caliper that has the Mazda logo on it? If so, the answer would be a resounding no. You don't need to upgrade the brakes unless you regularly track the car.

Actually no, i didnt make myself clear. Im looking for something that was made by Mazda. Maybe an OEM caliper of another vehicle with the name "Mazda" visible on the caliper. Its not an actual upgrade, more cosmetic.

The stock FD calipers do say Mazda on them, though they don't stand out much, unless you paint your calipers and emphasize the lettering (maybe polish it silver) - I did this to mine.

Here's a stock '93 FD caliper cleaned and painted red with the Mazda lettering highlighted by filing the letters with a very fine file.

IIRC, some of the early '93 FD's had the same calipers as the S5 turboII's. The brakes are essentially the same, but the front calipers are finned, I forget if they have the mazda logo on them. You might have these early calipers.

Wasn't difficult by any means. It was a little time consuming, degreasing, cleaning, and prepping for painting. With the calipers off the car it was very simple. I used UHR caliper paint in a spray can and did three coats on each caliper (both front and rear) and it took about two cans. I let them dry over night between each coat (I was in no rush... winter project ).

The pic you see on the car was taken earlier this year, I did the calipers two winters ago so they've held up very well.

Good luck and take your time and you'll be pleased with the end result!

How well did the paint hold up, you just said very well, anything fade? Do you clean them regulary or just run water over them? Where did you get the rotors by the way, they look so sweet!

No fading what so ever, no chips either. Granted I don't track the car, but I do drive it hard . I clean them regularly with mild soap and a semi soft brush.

The rotors are Brembo slotted and crossed drilled. Bought them from the RX-& Store.

VERY easy and cheap to paint your calipers. Here's my writeup -

http://www.clubrx.org/default.asp?id...ntent=37&mnu=5

I spent maybe 30-45 minutes total. They've held up great for MONTHS now.

You'll have to get pics up of your brakes - putting another caliper on or something would be VERY tricky to do. If you get pics, we can give you a better idea of what your car has on it.

upgraded leading piston and 314mm rotors - I wouldn't be forking out for that if I had a perfectly working set of originals
