i was changing my brake pads today and my little cousin jumped in the car and slammed on the brakes, while the rear pads were still out. So, my question is, how do i get the rear brake piston to go back to its normal position? Willi have to bleed the rear caliper? (it's the rear, driver's side brakes)

if i dont have the square block tool, how exactly can i screw it in with pliers?

 

IMO, just get the tool. I believe they are about $6-10 if that. You can probably find them at K-Mart now that they have Craftsmen stuff there.

 

do rotate the piston itself, or is there another screw i have to rotate?

I just noticed something...you're giving yourself the finger. You're supposed to apply that to the brakes.

 

not so sound mean but if your thinking about turning in your pistons with plyers then you shouldnt be doing your brakes. if you scrach your piston, you may damage the seal and caue your rear braks to leak. if that happens it will not be very safe. buy the tool to do it right or take it to some one who will do it the right way. its not work crashing your car to do it half assed and save a few bucks.

 

hey man, the same thing happened to me. what you need to do is go to sears/craftsman and tell them you need a brake piston squeezer thing (if it is the rear brakes). as you are squeezing the piston, you need to twist the piston counterclockwise. then it will go back in :-D

 

i took mine out and use snap ring pliers to get the rubber thing to sheeth in the piston and the caliper.

 

If you don't have the tools and the knowledge to perform the task then:

1) Have professionals do the task
2) Buy/refer to the manual and follow the steps
3) Gain experienced help and the tools to perform the job safely and the right way.

Too many jack-leg projects going on.
