I bought the car like this, with the driver side door panel bowed out from the center. I've had the panel off and fixed some of the broken structural parts inside, but I didn't see any way the center area of the panel fastens to the actual door from the inside (no way to "suck" the panel back in). Perhaps this has something to do with why I see so many FD owners pulling their doors closed by the outside top of the window frame instead of the pull cups?
I've thought about pulling the panel off, placing it backside-down on the ground, and leaving a weight on the bowed out center in the sun for a few days. I already tried replacing all the white fastener clips. Any other ideas on how to bow this thing back in?
I don't know if I've seen that in particular. At that junction there are 2 screws that go though the plastic trim on the right side and the storage box on the left, if those are broken or missing that could be a problem. Do you think the door panel itself (not the plastics) is the problem?
Also the aluminum door pull cups make a MASSIVE difference in closing the door.
Thanks, yeah, that junction was kinda busted up IIR when I had the panel off, but I felt good about fixing everything up with a healthy dose of plast-aid before putting it back together. My impression then and now was that the actual hard yellow foam stuff the panel is made out of was warped. I’ll have to pull it off and take another look.
