BOV welds to IC piping

What do you use to weld BOVs to the aluminum IC piping? What time of tool(welding) for aluminum?

I just bought a HKS SSQBOV and wanted to know if I have to get the aluminum flange to weld it to the aluminum piping. Its coming with a steel flange. I cant weld steel to aluminum, correct?

Let me know wht you guys think

you can mig it,
just need the right spool/ feed speed and gas mix

depends on where you go
but just to weld a flange on a pre cut hole
if they charge you more than 20$ its a rip off

ive done tons of research on this...

you need a mig wire welder ( @ least) and aluminum wire... Then you just need to get the right gas and you should be welding.. its a bitch though because you only have a small window of degrees around 732 to work with...

Goodluck.. i did some myself teh otherday and it sure is pretty

if a welders worth half his *** he can mig it, tig it, hell ive even arc'ed almnuim..the arc was hard had i to use another rod asside from one that was in the stinger, but it worked...deff not pretty

mig can be done just as pretty as tig..its all in the skills of the welder..
just like theres some paint shops who are good and others that are great, but they use the same paint...its all in the skillz

From what I understand, a mig welder is DC, and a TIG is AC.. the difference? Why is the TIG so much cleaner? Because the negative phase of the AC in the TIG welder acts as sort of a cleaning cycle.. Which (i think) is why it's preferred to use a TIG on ally... MIG'll work, but it won't be as clean of a weld.

Just what I've heard.

Get prices on welding. Shop around. I got quoted $120 for welding a flange on my pipe. He said it was *precision * welding.
I went to a shop where I usually go and he did it for free. I bought him dinner. In Hawaii there are not many places like on the mainland so consider yourselves lucky to be living there. We have MANY so called "experts" who don't know jack. Just a lot of attitude.

My dad is a major nose and he called today actually to see how much some place in this po-dunk area would charge to weld mine (I'm at "home", not beautiful Chapel Hill) ... $40 they said. I don't know why he loves to poke in my business -- actually I do, so that he can tell me that I'm doing things wrong (funny). Anyways, I thought that was a bit high, but we don't have an aluminum setup at the crib.

on aluminum you have to use ac and a tig . and im pretty sure you can't use a mig welder to weld aluminum. It took me weeks to learn to weld aluminum. gas tungsten arc welding or tungsten inert gas (tig) is the hardest type of welding processes, but cleanest. You should take it to a shop because you may end up shraping you parts.

I had a automotive fab shop (CAROBU Engineering in Costa Mesa, CA) "fish mouth" my BOV mount and weld it to my aluminum IC pipe for $93. The weld turned out extremely nice looking. CAROBU does quality work.
