That's what the mytivac is, a tool to test your vacuum and pressure. Get the metal one, it's $50-$70 well spent. Not only can you use it to test your components, in a pinch you can use it as a temp boost guage, bleed your brakes, it's just one of the most useful tool you can own for this car.

More than likely, the moo'ing sound you are hearing is the open element intake that you have. They all do that. All you have to do is follow the sound with your ear. They usually sound like someone blowing air across the lip of a glass bottle.
