Just take the hose of the BOV that goes to the air box and cap off the inlet at the box. There is no need to replace the OEM BOV. FYI your BOV is the one with the blue vacuum line.

+1 Don't waste money on a BOV, use it for other things.

If you're venting the BOV to the atmosphere just so your car can make a louder BOV sound, then you're retarded.

how is that retarded? What's wrong with liking the sound of a bov?

Being so judgmental is retarded if you ask me. How many things are done in life because we DONT like them? What's wrong with doing what someone DOES like?

It's retarded because the factory BOV is known to suck-in air at vacuum (aka when you're not making boost).

If the BOV is vented, it can suck unfiltered air under vacuum, and has the potential to suck in debris (dirt, sand, etc).

If you want to make the "woosh" sound at the cost of unfiltered air entering your motor...by all means, vent the BOV.

trexm3, did you not read my comment? I explained WHY its "retarded".

The are at least several threads about venting BOVs if you would only take the time to search. Please don't post pointless threads like this that only add clutter to the forum.

Side note #1: There's nothing wrong with using the word "retarded". You're talking about "mental retardation", which is different from the term "retarded" by itself. By definition, "retard" (as a verb) simply means, "to make slow" - which is what you'll do if you vent your BOV and it sucks debris into the motor, in turn harming the engine.

Perhaps it is you, trexm3, that is "ignorant" to common vocabulary.

Side note #2: Why is it that the people with the lowest post counts are most likely to ask questions about venting BOVs?

theorie,

I am aware of the bov sucking in unfiltered air. There are aftermarket bov's that do the same thing.

My point is that your post explains the reason for not wanting to do this. the person I was aiming at did not. Instead, they were a dick.

and to the OP: Dude.. really? Get the PC **** out of here. Its a figure of speech and I am sick of the minority of a population expecting the general masses to adhere to their wishes just because they thinks its offensive. You offend me with your PC banter, so I would like you to stop now.

Back on topic:

If you want the vented bov sound, purchase one that doesn't draw in unfiltered air under vacuum.

theorie,

no when i responded i didnt see you post yet .. Thanks for explaing it and i do know to use the search function... i couldnt find but some diagrams for bov installs..

but yea im going to leave my venting into the air box after your explanation thanks for clearing it up ...

thats why i didnt quote your post as i didnt see ... your post had some great info and thanks for it however the comment i quoted and responded to offered no useful input what so ever thats why i took that tone towards him...

anyway thanks for the help and info on bov situation im most likely going to leave it as is until i decide if im going single setup or not

On all of the FDs I have owned (4) never had an issue with the OEM BOV vented. There are plenty of people that run single turbos with a wire mesh as a "filter". I run the Webbers on my first gen without filters, been doing it for years, not an issue.

If you are concerned about sucking in air, go to Home Depot and get what's called a "swing valve" which is just a check valve
