Question bov/crv question?

I have recently bought my first 3rd gen rx7 (after a few years of playing with a 2nd gen) and have run into some boost problems. Researching the well covered topic (READ searched) I have come across a few contradictions and just wish to double check. The motor is stock except a hks blow off valve. The hks bov has replaced the front black valve while the brown crv valve remains which is plumbed towards the rear of the y-pipe. Is this correct? If so, would the below post be wrong?

Thanks for getting back- I tried eliminating both, so now I know it won't work. The "black" one that is closer to the front of the car is constantly blowing air out of it, I'm guessing thats the air bypass valve and the "brown" one is the actual BOV?- So hook the "black" ABV back up and leave the other hole capped? Or do I need a new CRV- I'm gettin' a little confused-
Reply:
You've got it, the black one is the charge release valve which has something to do with the prespool on the seq turbo system, brown one is the air bypass valve (aka bov), what you replace with the aftermarket bov. So leave the crv hooked up but make sure it's routed through your intake filter whether it's stock or not.
Cheers
B

You are correct. The black one (ABV) is the blow off valve. And yes it's the one that sits close to the air box.

how do I know? I just installed an Apex BOV and it works like it's supposed to.

This is a newbie question but regarding the bov, it is supposed to blow out air constantly even at idle because the intake is closed correct? I know it sounds retarded but this is the normal function of the blow off valve right because the boost has no where to go at idle, with the throttle closed.

you should have a vacuum at idle. the bov only operates when boost is being made by the turbo/s and the throttle is suddenly closed giving no where for the air to go, so it is released through the bov so that the airflow doesn't reverse its way through the turbo. a vacuum line is hooked up after the throttle to the to the top of the bov (diaphram, piston...) and pressure from the turbo works on the bottom of the piston. so when the throttle is closed a vacuum is created from the engine which helps pull the valve open and pressure from the turbo helps push the valve open.

btw don't encourage them with there newbie crap

no air should blow at idle nor when you give it gas.

It only blows through when you let off the gas.

Shezus Crist then I wonder why mine is blowing out air at idle?? I knew that couldn't be right, Any ideas?? When I turn the car the blow off valve is blowing out air like a blow dryer on steroids....

If you vented the stock BOV, it doesn't work like an aftermarket BOV. The spring isn't strong enough and it will vent some air at idle or low rpms.

Yes, Mahjik it is the stock bov, and it is vented, are you psychic, or just well informed lol.
Oh really so that is normal for the stock bov if its vented, phew . I thought that was gonna be another issue to stack on my plate. It really doesn't seem like it lets some air out at idle but actually a whole lot. But than again I'm still working on the idle. If thats the case then everything else seems to be working properly as it still vents off the extra air when I step on it making the pst sound and then release the pedal.

Sorry to steal your thread there for a bit:

just figured this was an appropriate place to put my info.
