Borla XR-1 + RB Dual

when i got my ... ... car i had dual ... ... ... n1 , hks midpipe, bonez mild dp, mild street port. and basically it sounded cool at wot but any other time it was just too loud.

i got the racing beat duals and stock cat/airpump for emissions. i seriously felt such a huge difference in power that i thought my c... ar was slower than a stock civic. and i thought my c... ar had turned silent, a couple weeks later i realized it was still loud(ported motor). anyway after almost a year i finally went to emissions and passed. (read my inspirational story in this section!)

i bought a borla xr-1 muffler a few weeks ago and have just been waiting to get it welded into my midpipe. so i called up my friend and told him that i needed his shop to do this for me. today i went and after a couple hours i have a resonated midpipe on there. really recommend these guys but they are still in the process of getting their shop ready and buying a third lift, if its not a huge undertaking that you need for your car i can refer you to them.

i lost the belt for eliminating the airpump so right now i just have the airpump shooting air onto the midpipe - basically doing nothing except robbing a couple hp maybe until i get the belt.

i was going to post videos of before and after, cat and resonated midpipe. but erik's mic volume was too high and theres lots of static for most of the runs with the cat so i will only post clips of idle and flybye with cat and that plus in-car with the midpipe and muffler. ive found it annoying that most clips of mufflers are of idling and revving a little. no driving, no inside, outside, flybyes, etc. so i will post those soon.

but for a preview of what it will be like. surprisingly it is now QUIETER, especially at idle and cruising at 2-3k than with the stock cat. it smells horrible as with any straight through setup. when revving or WOT it sounds more open and refreshing.

right now with 7psi, i get it by 3000 in 5th, havent looked at other gears. taking it for a couple test runs on the street after it was done, i lost traction in 1st around 6000 and in 2nd gear the top end felt much stronger and i didnt go past 7000 due to traffic. theres definitely more low end and top end. my car doesnt bog at very low rpms now and moving the car with idle and 2nd is very smooth and easy. i must say having the nasty lag with cat at 7psi helped teach me how to drive a bit and i really appreciate the reduced lag and extra power. id say at least 35 more hp maybe? i'll have to drive it more really feel the difference. but the n1 duals definitely gave me more power, like 50-60 more hp, if you dont care about the noise.

when i get piping made for my apexi fmic, along with greddy type r bov, and profec b 2, i'll turn up the boost and we'll see what happens!!!

I really like the borla
the porshe racers in the late 80s using them said they hardly lost any power trap speed verified after adding the xr-1

I've recommended that very setup for years. Truly music to your ears.

Thumbs up

Same setup I have.

Doesn't get the unwanted attention either. (Cops)

While the Borla may be a very good resonator, I find it impossible to believe that it is quieter than the stock cat.

that's right i lied.

it may be that my cat was a POS. i bought it used from some guy for $50 shipped. after all i didnt pass emissions the first time when i didnt use alcohol either because of the shitty cat or my pettit ecu or both. it was in fact, not by much, but noticeably louder than the resonator. either way, the resonator is very very quiet.

i understand though, i would not have believed it either without experiencing it in person. i was expecting it to be much louder rather than quieter.
