borla xr-1 in midpipe
for those of you who have made a resonated midpipe using a borla xr-1 welded in....
what length did you get??
is there a difference in the 16" vs the 12"??
and did you take it somewhere to get it welded in??
i know that SS is particularly hard to work with in welding
TIA

I have seen this done. The XR-1 has like one baffle and the MP gets HOT. I think after all the time and energy you would be better off calling Jason or Mike at the Rx-7 Store and getting a Pettit resonated MP. The pettit has a ceramic wrap out side the main 3" pipe that will not restrict flow but take the high pitch out. A big plus is it looks a little like a catalytic converter.

I know 2 people that had their Pettit midpipe crap out on them.
I'm not flaming Pettit. It's just an observation. If you DO go with it, you may want to ask if any improvements have been made on its design.

I have had an XR1 (16 inch oval) welded into my MP for one year with no problems thus far. Makes enough of a difference that my neighbors no longer complain, and keeps the cops at bay.
I will let you know when it bites the dust, if it bites it.
Borla has a 1 million mile warranty, I will be collecting if their is a problem.

As far as using the Borla XR-1 in the midpipe, I would suspect that it would quiet things down more than the Pettit unit does. My Pettit resonated MP probably reduces lower rpm noise by 25%. Higher rpm sound is reduced by 15% maybe. (certified seat of the pants testing).

im just looking to avoid suspicious cops and at least ahve something under there that "looks" like a cat somewhat. i currently have a bonez high flow cat. i am going to be installing some block off plates so theres no reason to keep the cat if its just going to get crap blown into there. i like how the bonez sounds......even though it does it any intimidation flames before they reach anyone behind me :p
i hear that the borla xr-1 is a VERY well flowing muffler so tahts why i am choosing it. the only thing im still really deciding on after reading y'alls replies is whether i should just take the high flow cat and unweld it from my current pipe (its really just the cat welded into a bonez 3" SS midpipe) or if i should buy another midpipe to weld it into. i dont know if i would be able to sell the bonez high flow cat as a whole component or not so i figured i would avoid having it sit in my garage and just retain the pipe and swap in the XR-1.
any thoughts on this??
would any everyday muffler shop be able to work with the SS components??
thanks
