It is supposed to be sealed with an o-ring. If it's not there, that's your problem.

There were a few threads on this o-ring a while back.

If you need one, the stock one fits best and is available from Malloy Mazda (888-533-3400). Ask for Ray Crowe. They give discounts and ship quickly and free.

I recently replaced the same o-ring in my car. Easy to do. Takes about 5 minutes. The OEM o-ring "should" cost about $3. Expect to pay 5 times that

If the oring is there (and it should be) it might be easier/cheaper to use gasket sealant. My car used to spit small amounts of oil from the TB/elbow junction, so I'm assuming I had an air leak here as well. The gasket sealant works great, just apply a even coat and crank it down.

Adam, you're not the only cheap dirty bastard

Is the o ring that orange/red rubber sealant thing? I took of the elbow a while back and threw that thing away. Now my idle is abit funky! So it's a must to have this o ring?

The Mazda o-ring is black. Someone may have used silicone-seal to try to seal instead...

I would just get the right o-ring, and do it right. It's not an expensive part.

The dealer priced the 0ring at $14 , wow . I get them from Nashville rubber and gasket for cheap. The hose supplier in Murfreesboro has given me a couple for free . I do not use sealer on them .Be sure the surfaces are not warped .
