Boost gauge or replace Apex Seals for first mod

I was under the impression that replacing the stock apex seals with 3mm aluminum apex seals was the first mod for every FD, but now i'm seeing that a boost gauge is the absolute first mod for all FDs. So now i feel like a retarded noob and i was just wondering where replacing the apex seals would come in when modifying an FD and if getting a boost gauge really is the first mod for an FD. Thanks.

Replacing the apex seals is not just like changing a valve cover gasket. It requires that you remove the motor from the car, and rebuild it. Think of it as replacing piston rings. Also, I don't think anyone makes aluminum 3mm apex seals.

Yes, a boost gauge is a nice first mod to have. Not to mention a downpipe, radiator, etc.

Read the 2nd post from the top. It has a lot of good info for new FD owners.

New apex seals would be part of an engine rebuild!

Good first mods are replacing the stock pre-cat w/ a downpipe, a water temp. and boost gauges.

hehe...I saw the title of the thread and said "Ok, there's a good joke in here!"

I wish it was as easy as sliding them in and out to change them

At least you didn't ask about getting the valves adjusted.

Have you got a quote from the dealer on valve adjustment... you would think they bathe the engine in gold before adjusting them....
