Boost gauge question, what is wrong here

I just bought a new autometer guage last week and when i bought the thing it worked great. when the car was off the needle would set right at the zero area. then earlier this week it started to set at 1 on the vacuum side when the car is off. now the needle sets at 10 on the vacuum side when the 7 is off.

my question is this, is something wrong with my car or did I just get a defective boost guage.

thanks for the help

Thomas

That's your problem right there.

Clearly a defective gauge because your car is not going to hold vacuum when it is off.

It does - but I think that that is a 60mm gauge (even though it is in an 52mm box).

The Defi DF03604 gauge (number written on the box) is 52mm and looks like this:

I like defi but they are too damn expensive. I just would like something that is around 50 bucks, looks good and works.

Where do you have the boost gauge hooked up to? Unplug it and make sure the needle doesn't move. Inspect the line carefully and make sure it didn't get pinched or something.

FWIW, I have some autometers and I have had no problems with them. I can't see spending $100+ on a freakin gauge.

what makes you think that they are selling a 60mm gauge? if it was the wrong size, im sure one of the 100's of people that have bought them from there would of noticed...

Did you pull the line off at the UIM or at the boost gauge?

If your problem is a pinched line between UIM and gauge, pulling the line off the UIM won't make a difference. Pull the line off at the gauge itself and make sure it's stuffed before you buy a new one.

To the best of my knowledge, the Defi gauge in that style is only available in 60mm.

Also, do a Google search for the Defi item number on the box - the gauge pictured on that site is not the gauge pictured elsewhere with this number.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong on this because I would buy this gauge if it were available in 52mm size.

I had a similar problem with an autometer Boost guage. Make sure that the bolts on the back of the boost gauge are tightened down (Even if it is not mounted) It will interfere with the guage mechanism (BTW: I bought a greddy so I didn't have this problem again)

I believe all the D-Gauge series Defi's are 52mm. I was told by the RX7store that all the D-Gauges have a silver bezel and come with a black snap-on ring.
