Boost gauge - Elec or Mechanical?

I'm picking a boost gauge for my '94 and want to know if anyone has any input whether to go with elecrical or mechanical?

Also, who makes the best pillar pod for gauges?

Thx.

i went w/ a mechanical boost gauge from autometer. i was a little tight on money since i'm still in college so i couldn't afford the hks or greddy one. the boost gauge is really easy to hook up. the boost line connects to a nipple on the left site of the plenum. It is the large top part of the motor that is to the left of the TB. This nipple should be capped off so just uncap it and connect the boost hose leading to the gauge. hope this helps.

If you can swing it go with a electric gauge. You can get features like peak hold, warning levels, and playback modes, depending on the gauge.

Which are only usefull if you plan on tuning your car yourself -which also requires an aftermarket progrmable ecu - most of which provide some kind of data logging for that anyway.

I like My Autometer gauge. The black face 'SPORT COMP' version is a very close match to the stock guages. Autometer also makes som nice custom fit pillar mounts for single, dual, or triple guages.

It all depends what you're looking for. If you don't want to spend too much money, the Autometer's are the bomb. There are a lot of people out there that are gauge snobs (I'm one, but who cares?) and will only buy name brand gauges. There's an advantage there in that you're definitely getting a good product, however the question is really how much can you afford to spend...most of the gauges out there are pretty much the same stuff.

I bought the Defi boost gauge w/ control unit, etc. and so far (not completely installed yet...hopefully tonight) I'm pretty happy. The workmanship on the gauge and everything is excellent, and I expect the reading to be spot-on with whatever my PFC says (when I actually install it :/ ).

Bottom line, look at the way they look, make sure you're getting the features you like, and don't spend more than you're comfortable with.

Autometer makes pods for the pillar, Pettit and RE Amemiya make steering column mounts for 52mm gauges.

On the Defi gauges with the control unit that allows for multiple gauges to be daisy chained. Is there any order in which the gauges have to be connected?? Or is it possible to daisy chain any of them to someone else??

For example, can I first get the boost gauge, do that install and then pick up the water temp gauge and just daisy chain that gauge to the boost gauge after hooking up the sensor to the control unit?

Is this how it works????

I got the autometer one last year and you're reminding me to put it on my soon-to-install list.

I opted for the autometer basically because it fits nicely with the stock gauges.

And it was cheap but from what I've heard not "cheap"
