Which Boost Gauge?
Which Boost Gauge?
I'm specifically looking for a gage that blends in VERY closely to the standard instruments, including at night (i.e. amber glow). As long as it's accurate then other considerations/ features are not a concern.

I have Apexi EL2 boost gauge, it's mechanical and it shows readings in PSI. It blends very nicely with factory gauges during the day, at night it's illuminated blue..
some pictures of similar setup to mine, you get the idea.

Im rolling with autometer, red back light(same as stock) and black faced..i dont care enough bout the looks of a boost gauge to spend 2-4x as much for something that looks a little better.

i have the autometer as well, it is cheapest and looks the same in day and with the red backlight matches very good at night, tho seems a little dimmer to me. (i do have it wired so it changes with the dimmer switch along with the rest of the stuff)
but i dont believe its quite as acurate as some of the others, tho it does a fine job.

I have the SPI gauge. I recently swapped it out to a Autometer C2 gauge for a change of scenery.
Again this one lights up red ( matches stock lights) or green (shown) but SPI went out of business a while ago so I think these gauges are hard to come by now.

Autometer makes a chrome-ringed gauge that blends nicely when you use the red backlighting. Problem is, the autometer mechanical is prone to losing its zero. It will still function, but the gauge might read -2"Hg when it's zero, and 9psi instead of 10psi.
Any of the electrical gauges (including the Autometers) don't have that problem.

VDO gauges match very nicely with stock. With an orange bulb cover (about $2) the lighting will match perfectly with stock. Very reasonably priced, and good quality.
PM me with your e-mail address if you would like a pic of my in-dash installation.

I've been using a VDO boost gauge and am happy with it. It resembles the stock gauges. I didn't bother to put a tinted lamp in it - it looks kind of orange at night because of the face colors, even with a white lamp. It is accurate on pressure but under-represents vacuum a little. It only cost about $35.
This model (VDO 150-061) goes to 15 psi maximum, but may not be available any more. There is a similar VDO version available that has a higher psi max.
