Boost Controller...do I need one?
I am doing a 3" down pipe, Apexi power intakes, and maybe (just maybe) a Greddy cat back system...do I need a boost controller? How many psi would I gained from this mods...and would stock computer ok? Sure dont want to blow up a mint 94 FD.
Thanks.
Thanks.
If you are hitting over 10 psi on the stock ecu, you need a boost controller. Period. If you want more detail, you can use the search function as it's been covered eleventy billion times. You can use the search string "boost stock ecu" and under my username.
if you do the catback, I say yes!
i experienced 1-2 psi with a catback and a HKS DP.
Get a Profec Type-S and you will sleep at night.
However, expect a 1-2 PSI lowering in your transition boost.

Please provide a source for this information.
If you have a stock cat you have little to fear, from boost at least...

If you are running a stock cat you won't need it. It restricts the flow enough that the stock ECU should be fine. As stated before, get a boost gauge first. Then you will know if you need to control for boost spike.
I had spiking at the transition to 11-12 psi with just a downpipe and a catback - stock main cat, stock intake. I think a boost controller is a good "early" mod - keeping boost near 10 is a VERY good idea on the stock ECU.

With a DP, and open intake, you will almost certainly be boosting 12 psi, or higher. Guess what ..... That's to high to be safe with a stock ecu. Anyone that tells you otherwise doesn't know ****!!!
Yes, you need a boost controller

I would get one to just be on the safe side, then you really wont have to worry about anything. I have a turbo XS manual boost controller, it was like 100 bucks, so its not like its a big set back. It controls the boost very well.
