body shop switched my plugs around

i dropped off my car to get body work done. i get a call from the estimator guy saying that the car wouldnt start. he said they tried a few things and that they didnt work so they took out the plugs and cleaned them. WITHOUT MY PERMISSION. now today i finally get out there and wouldnt you know the plugs are in the wrong spot. the front rotors ok but the back has the leading on top and the trailing on the bottom.

so could this have screwed up my motor if they tried to start it this way?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

don't worry about it - they didn't screw anything up. just go buy new ones and put 'em in.

i had the same problem at my body shop. for whatever reason (sitting too long, or flooding from a quick on/off) they said they had to replace the plugs. they put new autolite plugs in.

anyway, don't worry about it.

WRONG! That is a very big screw up and may blow your motor under boost.....

Yeah, it could. But the point is the car wouldn't even start, so the worst it could do it flood. If it had started with the plugs in the wrong place and the body shop decided to take the car out for a quick "dry the paint" run, then there could be issues.

I think they had no business touching the engine in the first place. I would hope that a shop would be responsible to know that since they are not RX mechanics the should have called the owner to ask about how to get it started.

I'm pretty sure they thought it was a harmless action they took, but had the car been damaged, I'm also sure they would claim to have nothing to do with it.

'Cause NO body shop mechanic would EVAR take the car out for a quick spin once they got it running again. You know, to warm it up, like you asked 'em to over the phone. And even if they ever DID drive it around, they would NEVER try and see how it accelerated, and therefore run high boost, right? Not knocking anyone here, just ranting...

I HATE leaving my cars in the hands of others!

I would report then to the beter buisness buro. They have no right ot be touching any mechanical components of the vehicle unless you gave them permission. Y would they need to start the car. If the car dosent start you push it. They have more than one body man at this body shop im sure, so y not just push it. Y go through the trouble of trying to start the vehicle if its a problem. Just push the thing.

Makes me wonder y they were so intrested in starting the car. Andy would they be toudhing the spark plugs. I suspect that they were intrested in going for a ride in it.

You should confornt the owner and let him know that his job is to fix the body of the car and not the engine. If i had my car there and they touched any part of the engine without my permission first i would emediatly have my car removed from the shop and report them.

IMO anyway

I would also check everything else out, including their work, to make sure that they didn't mess anything else up.

89Turbo944 Burro vs. Bureau

Dude, they are f'ing with you over your spelling. Consider it a privilege to be bagged on by one of the best. The flame wars he participated in over on the Big List are the stuff of legend.....

Just tell Jim he's a jackass (not like he hasn't heard it before).

Did they switch the spark plugs or wires (or both)? If it was just the plugs, it's not a huge deal.

Yeah its a big deal if they went out driving it and *****, which since its a body shop (good one?) they shouldnt go out and drive it anyway.

Just check it all like MAHJIK mentioned, just check the wires and plugs and then yippy your all good to go again. Thats why I hate taking my car to any shop. He touchs it without my permission he just bought it.

It stands to reason that if they couldn't get the car started then they probably didn't drive it anywhere.
