With BNR's, you don't have to upgrade everything else. You can keep a stock intake, intercooler, ignition and so on.. granted you won't be able to go much beyond 10-12 lbs of boost, but the nice thing is you don't have to Just because someone buys BNR's with rich mans non-seq mod, doesn't mean they want 350+ .. maybe people just want a simpler, more reliable setup that passes in CA!


AND stop suggesting using used twins.. gawd that debate is sooo OLD.

 

I have the relatively quick spooling BNR Stage 2s with a very highly modified manifold (thank you Garfinkle) and hit full boost non-sequential by 3500, easy

a few people with single turbo experience have driven the car and were very impressed by how responsive it is...can't match the top end power of a single, but it's fun and quick nonetheless

 

of course everything you said can be considered accurate, but WHY? i dont see logic in upgrading turbos spending 3k for hardware and install to make the same power. sorry that's just a rediculous post.

 

Actually, what's ridiculous is that you only factor in one thing, "power" ... but I guess your d1ck is bigger than mine, so that's all that matters to you

other factors that "other people" with smaller d1ck's than you, might consider would be: reliability, peace of mind, ease of maintenance (of course these can be had with a single turbo setup as well, but then that fails CA inspections - which would add yet another factor for people with smaller d1ck's than you .. legality.

The bnrs deliver more air at any given boost compared to the stockers. Even running them in 100% stock configuration will give you more power. They're more reliable and they're built to a higher spec. I wouldn't buy them to run 10psi but it is an improvement.

 

I believe the Stage 3's require some minor modifications to make the new manifold fit

Stage 2s use the stock manifolds, just larger cold sides

 

Bryan requires your y-pipe for modifications to mate with the Stage 3's (if you have the Efini y-pipe there is no modification needed).

Though I think what he meant was that, in order to get full use from the BNR's, you will want to upgrade several other factors in your car (i.e., Fuel delivery).

If you are looking to keep stock boost than I see no reason to replace a perfectly good pair of HT12's with BNR's. However if your turbo's are on their way out, and you want to get new turbo's (not spent $250-$400 for somebody elses spent stockers) but do not feel like going the single route than the BNR's would be an excellent choice.


I ordered a pair of Bryan's new Stage 3's at the beginning of this past winter. I plan on running about 16psi on a daily basis. In order for me to do this *correctly* I ended up spending right around $7k (this includes upgraded brakes and wheels/tires). By correctly I mean that the only thing I will need to worry about is paying for gas.


Currently my engine is still running on the stock ports, so I do not expect to see as much power as guys like Rich who have ran these with good ported engines, though I am going to rag it out until the engine blows (currently Rear: 8.9, 8.9, 9.0 and Front: 8.7, 8.7, 8.6) so I will have a legit reason for an aggressive street port.

Right now I am running 280rwhp @ .8Bar as measured by a Dyno-Dynamics Dynometer (I gained 40rwhp from an initial tune). I will report back with the increase in power on the same PSI level when they are installed (though I will also have an Efini Y-pipe and free flow MP installed at that time) if you guys are interested. I just got the tracking number on them yesterday, hopefully they will be here in about a month.

 

I'd suggest might pay to double check that one!

The new stage 3s have longer CHRAs, thus the y-pipe has to be modified to be about 1/4 inch longer. Doesnt matter if it's a stock y-pipe or an efini y-pipe, it has to be extended.

 

Hrm... when I asked Bryan about getting a new Efini y-pipe in the near future and needing it modified he pretty much gave me the green light (as in, Efini will be fine w/o modification)... I still sent a stock y-pipe for alteration (just in case), however I *seriously* hope I am not required to use it....

 

Whichever Y you want to use, I have to modify. I have to lengthen it 1/2".

I have not recieved my turbo's yet. They were just put in the mail the other day, however they are going through the Military Postal system... so I wouldn't be surprised if I'm a month in getting them.

I'm having it done at a shop, doing several other upgrades at the same time (Clutch, fuel, WBO2, tune, etc., etc.), they are pulling my engine for it.. the install will be done in a day (engine pulled, turbo's/everything else installed, and put back in). I'll be crashing out for the night and in the morning we will be doing all the tuning... so mine will be done, start to finish, in two days.

 

OK I'm not understanding the logic from a few posts back.

Regarding single vs BNR: Assuming the same HP goals, above the point for which you'd need fuel/PFC/twinpower/clutch/ETC, why would a single cost you more than the difference between the turbo kits themselves?

IE: BNR = $2400 OR Some Single Kit =$3800 .. Why would the single cost you MORE than $1400 more??? Seems to me that the only difference would be $1400 and the way the turbos perform and other factors like heat, engine bay space, weight, complexity, etc.

 

Bryan did my turbos in about a month.

 

I guess it´s not possible to get a BnR stage 3 kit in less than 3weeks than Bryan? I have a friend visiting to fill up a container with car parts 3weeks from now and I would really like a turbo kit if it´s possible I´ve emailed Jason at Rx7store about it to but no reply yet.

Hey Mattias.

Turn around depends on my workloads at the time. Right now is income tax return season and I get slammed with orders. Right now I have about 15 sets already prepped and machined, so down time isn't too bad. I have a batch to start on this week and about 3 T2 turbo upgrades to do before I start on that batch.
