BNR Stage 3 Twin Turbo Upgrade
Hey whats up fellas. Just wanted to ask you 3rd gen guys a few questions. A buddy of mine just got a 93 and wants to keep it twin. But he wants to get the BNR stage 3 upgrade. Is it worth it? He only wants around 400 HP so he says but any of you guys have the BNR upgrade and what do you think about it. Thanks

I only have about 250 miles on my BNR Stage 3 and thus far I am pretty happy. No oil leaks, no burning oil and I tuned it as high as 15 psi, which is probably the upper limit for 91 octane gasoline. It pulls quite hard at that boost although it is probably mid 300-ish RWHP. For 400 you need to boost higher. I would venture to say that if you want 400 HP and don't have smog worries, go single.

I am going BNR soon, I have already purchased them, just haven't installed yet.
I have talked to people who have them and have 420ish rwhp at or near 17psi.
of course you need a fuel upgrade to go above 14psi...

The people that have seen 420ish at around 17 psi thats all on stock ports correct? Any of these guys have street ports? Or is that 420ish with a street port?

I run the stage 3 s supersized , highly modified with ported motor and ported manifolds,called the rich mans non seq ,The car is very fast with no turbo problems with over 20 k miles on the turbos .The best selling point of these turbos is nothing you can touch .It is the BNR SERVICE .Brian stands behind his product . His back up service for me at least has been great .

I have the first set with the new cartrige ,the latest set but with large compressor housings .They are very hard to install ,they do not clear the bell housing or the intake manifold .So Brian uses the stock compressor on all the rest .I have cut the bell housing to fit and made a spacer to clear the manifold .I also have the Eifiny Y pipe attached to the turbos with V band clamps instead of two bolts each .The pipes from the the air cleaner have custom franges with 4 bolts instead of two each .The hot sides of the turbos are ported as well as the main mainifold .I call the mod ,the rich mans non seq .Several have been done . I had to change the oil line to work and make new water lines to work with the larger compressor .The Y pipe also has a custom flange on top with 5 bolts instead of two annd a HKS seq blowoff valve on it . There is another HKS on the Gready elbow to control the amount of air .The turbos are ceramic coated as well .These turbos work so well that I put a lot of time and money into them .For my use ,on the street ,they are great . The manifold porting really helped them out .I still do not want a single turbo,the set up works to well and looks great at the shows .Brian Cain ,who tuned it said it feels to be over 400 Hp easy . When a first bought a set of smokers Brian started working on the fix right away and came up with a fix for everyone . His service was great ,he never complained and I know he spent alot of time and money to fix the oilers .I know he spent alot on phone calls to me working out the new stage 3 s .

yup sold to me! haha yeah he should know his stuff still, its not like you forget everything when you sell an item. still have to break in my motor and tune before i get to actually have fun on these turbos though

Hey Rich I had a quick question for you. What was the option you got on your BNR's that allowed you to run synthetic oil in them , and how much additional was it? Thanks!
Also what is the deal with the "Supersized" Stage 3 BNR's I keep hearing about?

To run synth, you will need the dynamic seals installed, which is a pretty low cost option. You'll need to ensure you have your crankcase vented adequately via an oil catch tank or other method with the dynamic seals to avoid oil smoking from blowby.

Singles are for ultra high HP applications, Twins are for 425RWHP or less. Anything over that go single. Autocrossing and road racing people need to stay stock or they will be upped a class. Emmissions and inspections also restrict people from going single. It just depends on the application.

the twins generally spool faster and deliver almost instant boost, at least mine do, and they are non-sequential (Stage 2s with all the mods)....that's very nice to have unless you are going for ultimate power and freeway rolls

honestly I don't notice much of a difference between my current set-up and when I was sequential, I'm sure the light flywheel, full exhaust, and all the port work on the manifold Garfinkle did helps...it starts building boost at just below 3000 and full boost about 3600 or so...and it's super smooth
