blown tire

like many of you already know i dont actually own an RX7, but im still curious. so dont give me crap about not having one...

is there a spare tire compartment?
for everyone with low profile tires, when you are driving on the interstate and if you blow out a tire what do you do. do you have a spare with the same rim? do you call a tow truck/flatbed?
about the spare tire compartment in the back, ive seen people who put subs and amps into the back, but what would they do if they blew out a tire?

there is a donut under the rear hatch, if youve got aftermarket rims you either drive home an dget it fixed on the donut or call a truck. id call the truck. if you decide to put subs in that compartment, which you dont have to do to get subs and you blow a tire you have to call a truck.

No ****. Is that a fact?

I don't think anyone or at least anyone in their right mind keeps a spare 17" or 18" rim in their trunk. Takes way too much room.

A friend of mine removed his spare completely, because he said he wasn't paying AAA for nothing.

I actually prefer the trucks that slide a bar under the front, chain it and lift the front with the back still on the ground. 2 out of the 3 times I've had to have my car towed I used these trucks. The one time I had a flat bed tow it the guy scraped my lip all across the bed while he was getting it on there and my car is stock ride height

having it towed regularly works with normal ride height, but what about lowered cars with bodykits on them?

You run the risk of damaging the front/rear depending on what is done to the car. No way around it except not to put some kit on that's will get damaged. A lowered car with the stock front isn't a problem (as long as there isn't a fiberglass lip).

There can/will be other things that cause you to need a tow truck other than flat tires.

Very true. 2 of the 3 times I had my car towed was because of blown coolant hoses.

A blown tire is really no different than any other "failure" on the car. The only difference is that you *do* have something which can get you home (i.e. spare tire) should it be left in the car. If you remove the spare, then it's exactly the same as any other failure; you need to call a tow truck.

I've blown a tire before and used my spare. I've also had other problems that needed a tow (which ripped my front lip in half getting the car on the tow bed).

People don't blow tires. That's my opinion.

Only old ladies that don't check their tire pressure and replace their tires when their tires are due.

The one and only blow out I have ever had was back in 92 when I had a piece for a car and I didn't check the tires often. People that have blowouts now must be in trucks or something, not RX-7s.

Tires can go flat for all sorts of reasons, not just from neglect. While not necessarily in my FD, I've had pot holes and other debris on the road (that couldn't be avoided) cause several flat tires.

can you fit an 18 in the spare compartment? lets say you have 18s on your car and you happen to have the same rim and tire in the compartment, if it can fit, and your on a road trip and you have a blow out.
if you have expensive rims like that, should you just not go on road trips, or what?

You obviously don't understand plus-sizing. A proper 18-inch fitment is the same diameter as the stock 16-inch fitment.

Personally, I think this whole thread is pretty ridiculous. Yes, the FD has a spare tire. Yes, it will work. Yes, you can get your FD towed and if the tow company knows what they are doing, you will not suffer any bodywork damage, even on a lowered car.

This guy doesn't understand a lot about a whole bunch of things. If you have time to waste, look up all his posts and threads for ***** and grins.

Tis true, however, to add something relevant, the donut in the trunk is nowhere near as wide as the stock 16" wheel, nor any 18".

How about a plastic **** with a 1/4" bolt stuck in the middle of the tire? Didn't "blow" but it sure did go flat.

I'd use the stock spare, here in the good ol' northwest depending on a cell phone and AAA might leave you sitting on the side of the road for hours if you get reception, if not you might be walking for a while...
