Blitz FMIC + Koyo + 93 R1 = bad idea

I mostly lurk around the forum, and appreciate the advice that I've been given here in the past. Maybe someone could shed some light on my current predicament.

Last weekend I set out to install an efini Y-pipe, blitz fmic and a koyo radiator on my 93 R1.. I chose the blitz because the people that have run them have spoken very highly of the fitment, quality and completeness of the kit. The koyo was just an adequate and cheaper alternative to the fluidyne. For those who are interested, pics are available here . Be kind, this is over a shitty cable modem.

Things were going well.. the y-pipe went on without a hitch, although it gave me a good opportunity to see how sloppy my twins are getting. Anyway, as need to trim the bracket that holds the vacuum chamber just to the right of the y-pipe, I pull it off and see a missing vacuum line. I'm 98% sure I didn't just pull it off. It's probably been off for a while. Here's a pic.. any idea what this is controlling?

The car doesn't seem to run poorly with it disconnected. Same as before.

Now, on to my fitment problems. I have an R1, which means 2 oil coolers, and more importantly 1 big, hard, oil pipe that connects the 2 together. Well, with the stock radiator in there, it is in direct contact with the cooling fans. I need another inch or so to squeeze the koyo in there, and with this pipe in the way, just don't have it. See:

There was something in the instructions about it, but they, being all in japanese, didn't help a whole lot. I got the stock radiator in there no problem, but want the koyo. Anyone else running this configuration with an R1? Can anyone recommend replacing these with a heavy rubber line, and recommend a source for such a line? I thought about pulling the cooler, but would rather not.

Thanks

Hey Dave,

That hose is supposed to be like that for a 5-speed; it's connected with the automatic.

If you read an earlier post last week about the BLITZ, I mentioned fitment problems.

I removed the flimsy cross member which was not needed any more for my application, and also slightly bent the hard oil line for more room. It still touches my fan shroud because of my M2 radiator, but not very much now.

Thanks, guys..

That makes me feel better about the vacuum line.. seems odd that it would just be open like that, but okay, I'll buy it.

cewrx7r1: What did you use to bend the line? It's seems pretty heavy to me. And I didn't notice your post.. frankly it's a bit exhausting wading through all of the "gee, which ... should I buy?" posts. Must have missed it in my search.

And I was trying not to re-locate my battery, so I'm still using the cross-member. Maybe I'll get rid of that, and eliminate the ast, and be home free. I'm not sure if my hawker 925 will fit in the storage bin without hacking at it, though. I'll have to look.

Thanks again.

Dave
