black plastic water coupler on left side of block
I need to order a new one, and damn it all if the Mazda parts guys can't even find mention of it. I was wondering if someone knows where it is depicted in the Factory Service Manual (I've been looking feverishly thru mine....) so I can show the parts manager tomorrow?

Are you talking about this piece?
If so, the part # is 61-240A-B455 (on Mazdatrix website) and you can get it here, http://www.mazdatrix.com/bhose3.htm for around $10.00!
Good luck!

You don't need it. Just remove the plastic and there's a metal pipe with ribs on it. Slide the hose on and put a couple of hose clamps on; you'll be fine.

i agree that this part isnt needed. but in the future, why not get parts through ray crowe? he knows the FD inside and out, so you won't have these kinds of problems

Jeff pointed me to a good tip. They actually have those in the "HELP!" section of the auto parts stores. Ford used the exact same part.
The only reason I could see using it is keeping the heater hose spaced away from the block a bit. FC's ROUTINELY blow heater hoses, since oil drips onto the hose during oil filter changes or from leaky oil filter pedastal O-rings. I think the plastic can take the oil a little better.
BTW, I saw a trick I'd like to try the other day. Supposedly you can take a 20mm open-end wrench and use that to push in the 2 tongs on the quick connector to remove it. Whodathunk.

And strangely enough, the Wichita dealership has a pretty good inventory of FD parts still...it has surprised me.
