Best Tap location for oil temp?

Hello. I just ordered some gauges. One being for oil temp...
Any ways I was wondering what the best and easiest way to tap into oil temp would be.
I know they make oil filter sandwich plates, but is that really where you want to pull temperature from? I've also read of people tapping into the banjo bolt for the oil cooler, but I don't feel to good about that...

I just know there's not much room in the oil filter location to do the sandwich plate and not really necessary for just one gauge tap.....

I would like to just go with the drain plug sensor, but I've only found one for VDO and I've got Autometer ES gauges.....

I purchased a Mazdatrix oil filter pedestal and installed it in about an hour including hooking up my oil pressure and oil temp gauges. The added benefit is a short run for the sensor lines to the cabin. That would be my recommendation.

I am just keeping the stock gauge for oil pressure. I'll check that out. Thanks..

You can block off the unused port on the filter pedestal with an NPT plug that can be picked up at any hardware store in the plumbing department. McMaster-Carr also has them.

Cool. sounds like the best route. And being a racing beat part It's sure to work..
My factory oil pressure gauge acts erratically so I was just going to replace the sender, but at over $100 for just the sender maybe I'll just go with a 4-pod and do an oil pressure gauge as well. With that RB block it would make it easy enough anyways...

Thanks for the info.

Do I need to get the smaller oil filter for clearance with the RB plate?

I have no clearance issues using the Mazdatrix oil filter pedestal. I still use the factory oil filter. There is ample room for the factory filter and I have zero issues installing/removing my oil filter mounted on my oil filter pedestal. I have not seen RB's version to know if a shorter profile oil filter is needed for that oil filter pedestal.

Ok good. I assume it's an identical part. I got it from mazdatrix, but it has "RB" logo on the side...

I currently have the RB pedestal and honestly I love it, made installation a breeze, looks great and well made no clearance issues at all using oem oil filter.
