best synthetic and grade?

I am going to switch from Castrol 20w50 (running for engine break in) to a synthetic. I was just trying to get anyone's opinion who has been running synthetic on what they feel is currently the best brand for rotarys (Mobil 1, Redline, Royal Purple, etc.) And also what grade for average type climate? (Live in Colorado Springs little hot in summer, little cold in winter) Ain't trying to start up on the whole synthetic thing just asking for quick opinions. Thanks

I run Redline 10w30 in my R1 and the climate out here is about 60F in the mornings and 90F in the afternoon.

I lived in Colorado Springs a while ago - although the snow isn't quite as nice as in Tahoe, I do miss the aspens and the Pikes Peak Hill Climb....you're not a native are you?

I have never heard of amsoil until reading about it on the forum. Can you find it in the average auto parts store like Pep Boys or Checkers, or is it something you have to order?

How did you know I wasn't a native? Been here about 2.5 years in the Air Force,(originally from PA) just got back from 6 months in Pakistan. What a **** hole! Pikes Peak and the mountains are a nice view from here.

I have seen dramatic results in oil temps and engine noise from using Redline Racing 40 wt versus regular oil. Amsoil is very good I've heard.

I didn't assume anything...although I can only imagine the sacrilegious fun of driving a FD in the snow.

Air Force, huh? Are you in the "cave" or Peterson AFB? I certainly hope they've stopped salting the roads or that you have a second vehicle once November rolls around.

I'm at Peterson AFB and they use sand for ice around here. I have an old beater pick up I drive around most of the winter. But still like to drive the FD at least a few times a week for fun on good days. It runs real good in the cold.

I'm not a know it all and dont want to come off sounding that way. But 7's are designed to burn oil. Hence the Oil Metering Pump. Syntectics are not designed with rotarys in mind. In the summer run straight 30W and 5W-30 in cool weather (I know your not driving it in the dead of winter...)

I use Mobil 1, 5W-50 grade.

Swear by it, 560+bhp daily driver, I changed from mineral and later another brand of synthetic to Mobil 1.
"from engine building experience"

I am sure there ar others out there that will do the same job, but it's the same old story, when your on a good thing don't change it
