Best performance exhaust with least volume

Hey all. Which exhaust gets you the most power but keeps the noise levels lower? I have the N1, but am considering another since I have a buyer for mine. I'm running a straight midpipe which is why I'd like to cut the noise down if I can.

I'd like to know the answer to this too

I'd imagine the M2 is pretty quiet but it doesn't look aggressive enough for me.

Me too. I want to keep the dual tip look and from what I have found Racing Beat or M2 seem to be the more quiet ones but I have not heard either. Right now I am stock with the exception of an M2 downpipe. I have heard a Greddy, or maybe HKS, catback and it was too loud for my tastes. Sounded nice outside the car but inside it killed me.

Any info on this would be great.

heres my .02
I have heard the racing beat and the m2

and they are about even in my book as far as sound. they are a bit louder than the stock and a bit deeper. The racing beat can sound sort of like a hollowed out can from time to time. The construction of the m2 is much much better. The M2 is polished all over where as the racing beats I have seen are only polished on the tip and on the back.

The problem I had was that they both cost a bit and still restrict flow more than some of the larger single tip. The best exhaust I heard at the show was michrx7s. He has a custom titanium light weight single tip. It has a very deep rumble like an old v8 at low throttle and really roars at wot. Some of the wide open systems are just way too loud at any time for me...I think the reason michrx7's sounds so good is that the pipe is so large before the "muffler" that it help richen the note.

Large mouth single tips are not my thing....so I opted for a custom dual. I opened the pipe to 3" from the cat back and then had an exhaust shop weld a dual tip end onto the pipe. They cut the mounting end off of the factory muffler so that the new exhaust would bolt up. Essentially I have no muffler, but the 3" pipe acts like a resonator giving me a deeper note without the tin can sound. The system should be essentially freeflow. I have been very happy with it and the grand total was $175 including install. I think I might try to get the pipe even larger before the tip to deepen the sound even more....but 3" is the largest this shop carried at the time.

i have a pettit dual tip exhaust and i wouldn't have it any other way. not too loud w/ non seq and a midpipe unlike the n1 which will make you deaf with both cats, top notch construction, stock appearing and i really doubt it's holding me back right now. cars pull up , inspect first for the big exhaust-nope, then to the front looking for the big fmic- nope, then they want to race. then you casually blow by them(most of the time), spitting out a couple flames after you let off at 8 grand! then i go home and have and have an ice cold

Greddy Evo: same canister as the PE but with an offset design so it doesn't look obnoxioius. It has a straight through muffler and the tubing diameter is about the size of an apexi GT. It is supposed to sound just like the PE which is very low in volume but deep in tone.

The Racing Beat dual tip is fully polished now. It has been for the last couple years.
Here is a picture of mine installed, you can barely make out the polished can behind the tips.

There is a sticky at the top of the 3rd gen section full of video and audio clips of different exhaust systems, you should check them out.

edit: So I noticed that pretty much none of the audio clips work. I will see if my audio recorder can get a decent enough quality sound clip to post.

Does anyone have any dyno info to see which ones are performing better. I don't want to sacrifice too much power for db levels.

I made a crappy Video of my exhaust. This was a pretty cheap camera but it kinda gets the idea across.

The mods I have that would make a sound difference are down pipe, high flow cat, and the Racing Beat dual tip.

The Pettit is the same as the RB - they carry the RB line including their front swaybar brace...

How big is the tip?? in inches. I have wanted to get that exhaust but I didn't know if it would be quiet enough. I have the Trust j-spec, (the one with no baffle) also running a straight exhaust. It is loud as hell, way too loud for my tastes. I had no choice because it came on my car. I found a place selling the HKS exhaust for 450.00 Do you think it is a good deal?
Worth the $$$ Tthanks

I have a Bonez dual-tip and it is slightly louder than stock. Nothing that bothers the neighbors.

Whatever you do go stainless.

Big cans and carbon-fiber are so RICE

Any pictures?

I've been trying to decide whether I can live with a single tip for the flow I need, or whether to do a single 3" inlet/oulet (or larger) canister and then split to two pipes after the muffler. I'm not sure it's worth the extra work.

i got it on sale for $399 at www.intensepower.com and i think they only have 1 or two left.

the tip diameter is 120mm which is about 5 inches i think. at first i didnt like it because i thought it looked 'rice' but now that its on the car i really like how it looks. and at $399 you cant beat that. really, sometimes i dont even notice that the exhaust is aftermarket because it is BARELY louder than stock. of course i do have the stock precat and mid cat.

here are two more pics:

your catalytic converter is keeping things respectable.

Put on a midpipe and prepare to go deaf.

They do come fully polished, as I have the RB DT on my car right now. Fit, quality, and finish are all great. I installed mine in a few minutes myself, and I only hear good coments about it, and the sound. As for robbing power, it doesn't take as much as most people think. You can have the best of both worlds.
