Best Manual Boost controller?

Im doing the non-seq conversion and figured I'd go ahed and get a manual boost controller. Whats the best one for the best price, greddys sells pretty high. I see alot of no name brands selling for 15 20 bucks which is cheap, are these reliable?

A ball & spring type will give you much better performance than a bleeder type. I'm running a Ric Gillis BoostValve and it's completely solid. Boost comes on immediately cause the WG sees 0 pressure until you reach your setting.

why do you only want to spend that much, I wouldn't feel confident with that kind of system

Yea, not its mechanical. I'd feel more confident in a manual than a electronic.

I suppose your perspective might be different if you're driving a $20k car. I've got less than $2k in mine.

yeah manual is simple, but as the link said, a quarter turn can mean the difference between 10lbs and a blown motor.

i use a hallman es manual boost controller. very nice adjustments, great quality, doesn't bleed off boost on the top end, and looks very good. www.boostcontrollers.com is where i got mine, $50 to your door, very worth it

with the dawes device style boost controller the wg sees 0 pressure until you reach your setting too, from what i've read. what are the differences between the dawes device style and a hallman style other than the dawes is "pressure controlled" and the hallman is ball and spring?

I'm running the home depot boost controller with Non-seq. turbos and it works fine. I get max boost(13psi) by 3900 rpm/3600 in 5th. However, I am looking to switch to a ball and spring type MBC for the reason stated above.

I recently bought one for 18.00 shipped from ebay. The unit isn't working. I may have pinched a vac. line while installing it, but i doubt it. Or the spring may be too long or too stiff....

I am hoping to achieve faster turbo spool up soon.

guys I have a question

I have the bleed valve from the manual boost controller how to.
I am also running non seq so I only have one of the valves. Isn't the way you want it for the least boost possible all the way counterclockwise? So this means that inside the valve it is totally open? If you totally close it you will get your max boost right? Now if I don't have this backwards then wouldn't the best way to get your least boost be to just leave the hose without a pill and no bleed valve?

Also is there a valve from a local hardware store that I can pick up that will help me to lower my lowest boost and get faster spool up?
If so a part number would really help. Right now I have a intake, full exhaust with midpipe and I'm seeing 11psi max full throttle all the way through 4th...I didn't try 5th yet but I probably will this weekend
ALSO when I turn it counterclockwise to get my lowest boost it gets to a point where it is pretty hard to turn any more so I assume that's fully open. If you keep turning it in that direction it will get loose again and keep turning forever it seems.

You are correct. All the way open will be lowest boost.

You would achieve the lowest possible boost if you ran a pressure source directly to the wastgate actuators (or the MBC full open). Whatever rating the spring in the actuator is rated for is all that you'll see.

You can't buy a valve that will lower the boost under the rating of the wastegate actuator spring.

You will see the fastest spool-up with a ball & spring design because the actuator sees absolutely no pressure until the ball pops up off the seat.

For the fastest spool up time you need to match the spring pressure in the actuator to your target and set the manual (ball and spring ) control to it . My mechanic is doing this by customizing the stock actuator. Brain at BNR and rotorbrain have seen this and think it is a good idea.

Which MBC have you had a bad experience with? I used to have the home depot mod on my 7, which worked great since the PFC was still using the solenoid duty to really control the boost.

Now I have a TurboXS dual stage unit with a TO4E and have no complaints, and one less clunky electrical gizmo in the car that has too many useless features on it.
