i happen to like my apexi... it matches my car.

j/k, but on a serious note, i think its alot of bang for your buck. its 1 of the cheaper intakes available, and i dont think the other intakes that cost $200+ more make much more hp than the apexi.

it depends on what IC you are running/how you have it piped. you can't fit alot of closed box intakes with big IC setups, though it's depatable if you even need a closed box with, say, a huge FMIC. basically you need the intake setup that matches your situation.

Intake with some k/n filters and a custom heat shield/ram air setup would be pretty good. And wouldn't cost as much as other set ups.

Stick with airboxes if you can fit it with your intercooler setup...

Apexi, Greddy and such are all crap. Stay away from any intake that does not come with a heat shield and not sucking air from the front of the car.

You will not find a finer intake filtration system than the Blitz SUS System (S/S filter). The workmanship on the components are second to none. And those huge shiny s/s filters look pretty awesome as well!

Any foam filters pretty much suck. My main beef with them is they don't filter that well, secondary complaint is that they suck in hot under hood air. If your intake sucks in hot air you can kiss your airpump goodbye.

Facts not opinions...

Hmmm, anyone have filter tests besides the "one" test in which case the site displaying the information didn't even do the test themselves (they just reported tests that were performed by someone else)?

I will say that foam filters probably do not filter as well as other filters. However, as they get dirty, they do not hurt performance as non-foam filters do. I still have yet to see anyone blow an engine or turbo and directly relate it to a foam filter. For those that have had foam filters "break apart" and go into the intake track, that's just **** poor maintenance.

As for the airpump sucking in hot air and dying, I'm still not completely convinced of that one. I've been running the HKS intake for 3 years and haven't killed my airpump. However, I did purchased a used one 2 years ago for $50 when I thought it was going out.

Could you elaborate on that?

The more the air filters clog up, the more restrictive your air intake becomes. As they become too dirty, your performance degrades. You can tell a foam filter is not going to have that problem, however, you do lose some filtration (as nothing is "free"). It just depends on which compromise you are willing to make.

Find a place that sells both filter types. Pick each one up and try to blow or suck through them.

When I was researching intakes (years ago), there were many sites that documented things like that. I'm sure Google would pull up a few.

you guys knock the apex, but it seems like a lot of FD owners running them. Is that just cuz they are cheap or because they are effective?

The best intake is the one you make yourself.

As people talked about it depends on what your IC setup is. My car came with the apex-i it worked fine until I upgraded my IC. I shouldn't have said it was a peice of junk, it just doesn't work with my current setup. I would go with the Blitz intake, if I was going to stay twin.

if your intercooler is large enough, cold air intakes become useless

My Opinion = Blitz da shitznitz!

I've got one with smaller or shorter cone--option for Blitz FMIC. Never a problem. But, I have RE-Amemiya (Old Greddy) also. When I first replaced the filter on RE one, the car felt a little faster at WOT than Blitz. Maybe, I was just surprise from new filter.

I think the best intake is the drop-in K & N with the stock box mod. I've done my own version of it and i can feel a difference in throttle response and spool. Especially in the mid to top-end.
