Best Gauges to have?

What are the best two gauges to put in the gauge pods that will hold 2 gauges?

Assuming you Don't have a Power FC and You DO have a Column or other Boost Gauge (which would be choice #1 otherwise):

(1) A (Real) Water Temp Gauge. The stock is useless. I know on this one.

(2) Fuel Pressure Gauge maybe next.

An A/F ratio gauge would definitley be great if you can afford an accurate one but none I know of will fit in your gauge pod.

I have an Oil Temp and Fuel Pressure on mine but I also have a Wideband A/F, Column Boost, and PowerFC for the rest so that's why its those two.

Why limit yourself to (2) gauges? There are plenty of options out there (I sell (1) of them ) You can get an A-pillar pod that will hold (2), a column mount that holds (1), the mickey mouse border pod that will hold (2), and my center speaker gauge pod that will hold (3) to (4). Why hell, that's (9) freakin' gauges right there! See my sig for the (3) pod (click the link)

Frank

Blatant advertisement. Yes, yes I do (check your PM). I don't want to sound to obvious but I still think that this is one of the best solutions for gauges. Why limit yourself to (2) gauges in any one location (2 at the A-pillar pod or border pod, or that other center speaker 2 gauge pod) when you can have (3). I guess if you have a 94 or newer you could get the 3 gauge unit that goes where the passenger air bag goes, but who can actually monitor those gauges while your driving?. Personally, I have the following gauges (and I feel that they are all nesc.)
- Boost
- Water temp
- A/F
- Exhaust temp
- Fuel pressure

2 are on an A-pillar and 3 in the speaker location. I have a custom column mount I made that I will relocate the boost gauge back to (was there for 3 years and I miss it being there) then add a oil temp back to the center speaker location. I would like to find a decent intake air temperature gauge and use that, probably in a "Quad-Pod" gauge pod (wish Defi made the intake air gauge). Anyhow, thats my story and I'm sticking to it

Regards,
Frank

egt is for the tuning. . . when you go to the dyno you can use your egt to see if your timing is too aggressive or not. . . or just to make sure that you dont have any problems with a hot exhaust.

paul

ive never used one, but i will be. . . this is just my conclusion to what i have read. . . correct me if im wrong. . . . . . . . .pleeeeeeeeaaaase.

That's my understanding too, I'm springing for the 3 mount center speaker gauge in addition to the A-Pillar and adding a Water Temp (Commander is too hard to read), EGT, and just to fill it out, Ext Temp since I have everything else [FP, Oil Temp both on A-Pillar, Column Boost, Turbo Timer set to show Bat Volt, FJO LCD display on dash, {& commander}]

You can never have too much information I'm so committed to this car at this point that no expense will be spared.

haha, im torn between the new omori gauges and the defi d-series gauges. the omori look like stock gauges!!! i like that. ive got the column boost gauge. im buying the same center speaker gauge pod that you are. ill be replacing my boost gauge with another in the same location and ill be putting egt, afr, and fuel pressure gauges in that pod. i gotta get my fd running first though!!!

I've got a air/fuel ratio and a boost gauge on the pillar, but other than that if i were to get any more I'd prob put them on the conter console under the radio or something... Too many gauges can clutter the clean look of u'r car. Not to mention as it is looking at the tach, speedo, the road, mirrors, and 2 meters is a lot of back and forth motion already. Could be just me, tho..

I don't think all of those will fit in the pillar mount

Nah I'll trade off a bit of cleanliness to have my cockpit Mission Control.

As long as the gauges match up well and are installed nicely I think it'll look good. I'll take a picture after the center speaker gauge is installed and all can judge for themself. I have a lot of gauges, turbo timer, Commander, and Profec B so it'll be a good indication of a heayily gauged cockpit. Not to mention radar detector

Does the PFC have a good A/F reader on the commander?

No. You can't have a good A/F reader unless you go to a 4 or 5 wire O2 sensor. The POwerFC reads the stock sensor only. No fault of the PowerFC...

For general knowledge try the GReddy 4 wire. For tuning purposes you will need a wideband A/F meter with a 5 wire O2 sensor.

With the PowerFC, Datalogit, and a good wideband like the FJO you can get those readings synced up and tuned. Something I am doing right now after analyzing a 55 minute highway/street run.

David

Edit: You can get the O2 voltage values but they are only as good as the sensor which is like the Water Temp gauge....
