I intend on running between 20-25psi on the norm using race gas, and Ive heard that some of the blow off valves have a problem at higher boost then others, if anyone is running 20psi or over id love to hear any input you have. thanks

 

i heard the APEXI two-chamber BOV is good

 

you can also use the HKS SSQV since it is a pull type and not a push type it should work for you perfect.

 

How long to you expect to be running that kind of boost? If you really plan on running that much boost I would recommend the GReedy Type-R stiff spring. I wouldn't bother with the A'PEXi or HKS stuff unless you purchased the Racing II HKS. You should also look into Tail BOV's.

i would recommend the greddy type R also. Also if your one of those people who are into BOV for the sound then its also a good choice. half throttle low boosts it shudders a pshh. Under higher boost it sounds like the whistle that a bottle rocket lets off, except for much louder. It sounds good.

I would disregard that post about the apexi...mine leaked boost and after posting about it others claimed their's leaked as well.

 

Hate to break it to you, but the SSQV would be a horrible choice if you're running 25 psi.

Just wondering why is it horrible when chances of it leaking is kinda hard since the valve would not move at all under boost, since it is a pull type it does not rely on a spring to hold boost, I also spoke to HKS about this and they said it will hold up to 36 lbs with no problems.

Is there something I am missing here...I am not trying to start an argument, but I would want to know why it is horrible, because if it is horrible then I will upgrade to a tial or greddy type R myself.

 

How many guys do you see running one who are boosting 25+ psi? The ones that are running the HKS are running two of them for a reason. It's also half the price of Racing BOV for a reason. The quality of components and the amount of air they can handle are different. Does the HKS SSQV work for cars running light modifications? Sure, and some people probably run it at 15, 20 or 25 psi. But if you're going to be pushing lots of boost and are shooting for big hp numbers that's not the BOV that you want.

 

Tial 50mm BOV all the way. I went to a drag race one time with the Turbonetics Solara there with the hood popped. It looked nice and went pretty damn good thanks to two T-66 turbos. I looked to see which BOV they were running expecting to see a Godzilla, but nope, two Tial 50mm BOV.

 

Do you have any actual data other than what you see people running, I would not want to spend $500.00 on a blow off valve if I know that my $250.00 BOV would be just fine.

No, but my friend will be tuning for 28 next week if the weather stays clear...He is running the SSQV right now and boosting at 23 lbs and so far no problems.

If we do see problems then I would tell him to run the type R or the Tial, we have thought about this already but since HKS said it would hold to 36 lbs with no problems he decided not to upgrade it. I guess we shall find out soon if it will hold or not.

I do like the tial's better just not the $'s
