Believe I found the vac leak!

Well, I was poking around the area where the UIM bolts to the LIM with the car running trying to check for vac leaks. I took some brake parts cleaner(didn't have the straw however to isolate the spray to one small confined area) and sprayed it around the area and the car bogged down (I know that flammable liquids should cause the idle to raise, but I found out this is a common problem with brake parts cleaner) The main thing is that it had an effect on it. I bought some carb cleaner last night with the straw to spray and see if that is flammable enough to combust and raise the idle. I don't think it is the gasket between both mainfolds, but instead, I think it is the area around the block off plates I installed on the ACV, AWS and the airpump block off plates on the back of the LIM...I used silicone...maybe I just didn't have a continuous bead of it...

Did you use studs & nuts or bolts to put the block-off plate on?

Nope, the bolts are better. Generally, if you used the stock studs and nuts, you would need a washer or two to help it seal. So I was just checking.

cool. I suppose I should be using high temp silicone for this. I am not sure if what I used was hi-temp...can't remember. this was clear and the hi-temp is usually red. I will remove the manifold tomorrow and red the block offs. of course, first I will isolate the leak. I know now why the vacuum has varied so much...at idle just leaving it its' 16/17 mm/hg, and after I tap the gas, it stumbled and the vacuum goes to 12-14 until it can level itself out again. of course, after I let off the gas, it will smoke dark grey because the computer is compensating for the extra air coming in with more fuel...

I recommend the Ultra Black stuff:

Most local places will carry it.

Permatex "the right stuff" is also a preferred choice of rebuilders.
