Been away for 6 years

I sold my 93 around 6 years ago and I am about to get another one. Its a basket case but I have some ideas for a mid engine FD.

Soooo...You're gonna leave it stock?

"The original RX-7 was a sports car. The compact and lightweight Wankel engine (rotary engine) is situated slightly behind the front axle, a configuration marketed by Mazda as "front mid-engine"."

I would never bash the FD its a fantastic car ! I realize you didn't say that but I just want ya to understand my thoughts about the factory cars.
I am hoping to be able to build a car for fun. My biggest problem is the old CG ! I just don't have that figured out. My V8 914 was a 4 second (0 to 60) car but its CG was too high.
guess the car / engine of my DD

I would assume you are talking about putting the engine BEHIND the driver, then? Do you seriously have a clue as to what THAT would encompass?

+1

this project would cost more then your DD . LoL

this thoguht has never even crossed my mind so I havent even looked at the dynamics . But look where the rear wheel rests in relation to the car. for it to be rear mid engine , remember hte engine has to be infront of the rear wheels look at the car again and think this through look at the spaceavailable .

What is your goal for the car? what makes you WANT a rear mid engined car. and why the FD?

I had a V 8 in my Porsche 914 but I think as you pointed out room is a huge issue, but the LSX engines aren't real wide. I was looking at a 07 350Z. A roll over total, that would be a nice package in a lighter car installed conventionally. Working on a price with the owner. I'm in Ca. so smogging has to be done correctly. I had a Ca. smog license for 25 years so that's not as big a deal. I would want it to be legal its just too easy and the penalty is high if ya get caught. The Z engines can make a lot of power and are much more advanced electronically. Since my CL65 has a tt V12 fuel mileage would be nice to have... LOL

A V8 swap makes more sense with the FD chassis. If you want a mid engine vehicle, look at the GTM Mulsanne by Factory Five. Kit Car. Badassery will ensue.
