Why does my friend in his 89 turbo always kick the sh*t out of me when we race. should I be considering a 2nd gen rx-7.

 

there pretty much the same engine since you didnt know... just different turbo... also depending what mods he has compared to yours... think outside the box.. what do u drive?

 

Do you have a boost gauge? If so, are you getting 10psi?

Is his car stock?

 

stock 93 black. only mod is greddy exhaust and header

I don't know what mods he has..except his engine was rebuilt from "Rotary Performance"

 

Guessing by your lack of knowledge on the car. He probably drives better then you

header? If thats true, that's the most random 2nd mod ever. The thing's only like 3 inches long.

 

I had to replace my header once. Man it was hard. hehe











Do you mean the Upper Intake Manifold, or UIM?

 

Then following the info Mahjik provided, get a boost gauge installed. It can be temporary, if you just want to validate that the car is working properly, but I recommend installing it permanently.

It's very common for a person like yourself to discover that the boost is leaking out somewhere.

Owned myself on that one. I got thinking of the 4 banger comment and it reminded me of someone saying the 4 ports on the UIM was why my car was a 4 cylinder.

When you say "race", do you mean drag from a stand still?

 

You've got at least a 50 hp advantage over him. Please describe how he "kicks the **** out of you" each time you race. You have a 5 speed, right? If you have an automatic, unless you drive it REALLY good, I can see his car beating yours....to about 60 mph maybe.

 

i was pushing 7psi in my fd because of my non sequential mod and i still wooped my turboII i dont see how a turbo 2nd gen could beat him unless the 2nd gen has some mods
