is it best to remove the negative battery terminal in the engine bay?
also i have a hks circle earth system should i just ground this to the chassis in the engine bay instead of the battery terminal?

I would advice you to run a negative from the battery into the engine bay and connect the old ground directly. I tried first to just ground the battery in the back but I had a lot of problems with ignition. Might just be with my car but better be save than sorry.

I ran my ground wire back to the orignal inside the engine bay and everything has worked great since. It was kind of a pain to run 2 lines but I thought it was worth the hassle b/c it I couldn't find a place to ground the neg. near the batt. that looked like it would be a good connection. I also have a ground kit installed and I left it all intake.

There is no need to run it all the way back, just make sure you have a good CLEAN surface and bolt it tight. You could actually do two grounds in the back to make sure. Also make sure your ground up front is very secure to a good CLEAN surface.
*CLEAN=Remove all paint completely and have lots of bare metal showing.

Yeah running a ground wire that long is just a bad idea.
You should just ground off the original in the bay and run a line at max around 24" or so off the negative terminal on the battery to some place under the bins.

why is running a long ground a bad idea? wouldnt that be less resistance than grounding the engine bay through the chasis, which might lead to ignition issues?
i ran a ground from the trunk to the engine bay because it was as easy as placing a cable next to the pos cable....not much extra work.

I won't let go
As far as resistance goes, if you have a good contact point on both sides your resistance difference will be neglegable, though theoretically a chassis ground will perform better as you have a much larger path for the current to go as opposed to a (comparatively) tiny wire. I also look at it this way. You want a good chassis ground. You have several things other than the battery and block that are gounded to the chassis so by having a good chassis ground, you in turn give a good ground to those devices, IE the ECU.
As far as the bin ground point goes, there's a threaded hole on the tranny tunnel side of the driver's bin. It's the same size and pitch as the seatbelt bolt. That's what I used for a ground point. Works like a champ. Again, make sure that you clean it well. It's a good idea to tap it clean the threads up.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
use a washer with teeth, like they use for stereo grounds. file the point of connection until bare metal and use the teeth washer and secure tight. you should have no probs. make sure your ground strap is short as possible.
