Battery relocation
Hello rotary freinds ;o)
Just thought I would share my recent battery relocation with you guys. I know the best options is to locate the battery in the trunk or the passenger bin, but I have the backseats and I would like to have the battery nicely hitten, so how did I do that ? first, I heard about a new lithium (gel) battery callede Ballistic EVO 2, VERY small and VERY light, they have it in a 16 cell type which I hoped would be enough power for my applications, so I ordered it, and can only say I am very pleased with the result. So, I messured that with a little work (and some clever thinking) this little baby could actually be in the storage bin, where the toolbox is (left side) the toolbox is now where the sparewheel is ;o) the routing for the cabels went through a hole in the driverside behind the wheelarch innersheild, came out down by the floor where the drivers feet are, routed alongside/under the panels, through the panel where the left rear speaker is and in to the storage bin where the toolbox is ! everything nice and clean, you have to take all the panels off in the trunk to fit the battery right in the toolbox bin, clamp it proberly down, and even a big fuse fit there too ! the negativ cable fits perfectly in there too, skrewed down to an existing bolt ;o) I am very pleased with this clean install and of course the battery has not so much Amp's (28) but good cranking Amp's, so far I have not had any problems starting the car and (actually starts better than with old BIG battery) I think this must be one of the most clean battery relocation, of course this will ONLY work with that fantastic little battery, I will post some pic's for you guys.

Very stealthy.
I asume that this is the Amp Hour rating? That's impressive for such a small battery. The Miata AGM battery that I used only has 3 AH more and it looks to be much larger.
Would you provide a link to your source? I'd like to check the cost / dimensions / CCA, etc. out.

Hey moconnor, yes I know ;o) I already have secured both + terminals.
James, I bought my battery in Germany, it is to expensive to buy it in the US due to 30% tax/VAT and shipping, but I read about it here: Ballistic Performance Components I belive you can buy it in more stores in the US, maybe here ;o) :

Looks nice.
Seeing as how I'm a complete noob with wiring and suchlike, could you inform me on what sort of equipment I would need to relocate a battery? I'm looking at getting a v-mount, and it looks like I'll have to re-locate.

I use those type of batteries in my bikes and rc cars. They are not as simple as drop in and forget you have to balance charge them every once in a while with a hobby grade charger. You also need a cutoff switch, if you run lifep04 cells down they will not come back.
To be honest I don't think that battery will last in a street car. If anyone wants to make their own they are made up of headway cells.

Here is a link to the pdf version online: FD Battery Relocation
I'm not the one hosting it, but it would be wise to archive it before this site ever goes down.

Because I wanted that extra space in the enginecompartment, and simply just because " you can do it !" ;-) I agree, with this small size/weight it could be placed many places in the enginecompartment though :-)
Until now, I can tell, I have had no problems running this battery on a daily basis, but I have a professional charger connected to it when in garage (CTEK XS 0.8) to keep the battery in perfect shape ;-)
