Battery that fits in bin?
So it seems as though the Miata battery that came with the car is dead. I try to start the car, all the electronics and everything turns on and then when I go to crank it, the car tries to start and then it just drains and drains. I have to be jumped in order for the car to start even after driving around.
I did a search for what battery to get and it seems like everyone suggests the optima 51r and I was wondering if that'll fit in the passenger bin? If it won't, then what is the best battery to get that will fit in the passenger bin? The car is a weekend car.

i've used the miata battery for a few years now with nothing but good things to say about the battery and the company. Since they're LA local, I've also returned a friends miata battery and they swapped them without any fuss. great folks and a solid product.

I have an OEM Miata battery in the bin too. I am going to pull it and bring it to a place to see if the battery is fine, if it is I'll just get it charged and see if it makes a difference.

I'm probably gonna get some hate for this, but I cut out one of my bins and put in a full sized battery. Bolted in a battery holder and put in a breaker fuse and I like it. Close the bin top and it looks stock. Just keep the car well ventilated.
I'm sure many won't want to cut anything, but I'm never gonna sell the car.

You could be crazy like me and get a voltphreaks lithium battery.
I got them when they were a bit inexpensive. They fit in the bin, either way you have to cut holes in the bin to secure the battery in case of an accident, also to run wires.
They have many different size's, and very good all around. https://p10.secure.hostingprod.com/@...products_id=81
Specs as i got from the above link:
Item Specifications
Model Number VPH750
Nominal voltage 12.8 volts
Cranking Amps (CA) 750 amps
Cold Cranking Amps (CCA) 400 amps
reserve capacity (RC) 28 minutes
Capacity 14 Ah
terminal type SAE top post, 3/8 male, or M6 male (click for images)
working temperature -22°F to 140°F (max 170°F)
dimensions 8.3 x 5 x 3" (not including terminals)
weight 5.25 pounds

Haha, as expected from Li-ion
You definitely get what you pay for in this sense. The only bad are the high costs involved and I'm not sure if racing bodies sanction these. This is a more worthwhile investment than Ti exhausts, that's for sure.
Imagine if we powered our hybrid cars with Li-ion. We'd be reaching mileages far beyond our current, but unfortunately at several times the cost!

I have a 51r in my bin. It semi fits in the bin (bing wont close), but what I did was use a heat gun to soften up the buttom plastic then I just pressed the battery in (supper easy). It fits perfect and makes its own fitmet so it dosent move around at all. The then make my own battery tie down by modding the stock tie down and bough longer battery tie down bolts from autozone. Worked beautifuly
