Exclamation Battery cable size and replacement

my battery was pretty much dead and i found out the terminals were kind of rusted
so im wondering should i actually clean the terminals and reuse them on the new battery or just buy a brand new cable to avoid future corosion?
the stock cables look pretty thin
i was thinking also about changing them to a 4 gauge or a 0 gauge
but then...is there even a point? because i dont have a sound system and wouldnt even need the heavy duty cables for anything else but to power the car.

and lastly...any suggestions on what kind of battery terminal cleaner i should use(thats if i keep my stock cables)

I would keep the stock cables. Just go the local Pep Boys and buy a battery terminal cleaner brush (should be about $2) to clean the battery terminals. You can just sand the cable terminals. You could also buy a spray can of terminal anti corrosion stuff but that may be overkill in the Bay Area.

I use 0 welding cable for the ground and the positive also . Now I have 0 size for the pos that is colored blue because I installed a sound system . The amp has 4 gage from the duel wire battery clamp and 0 size from the clamp . The only reason I changed from the black welding cable to the blue is that I show the car sometimes .

I use 4 gauge amp wire when doing rewiring of ground and charging system.

www.rotaryresurrection.com ---> tech ---> ground wire how to

Works well. You can either replace your stock wires or add these in addition to stock wires left in place, either way it will work.

so much corosion on the bottom of the tray...gotta clean that up before anything...

might as well consider relocating your battery to the passenger bin. all the materials for the job will cost you under $200.
