Bad coils or worse?

So I'm driving down the freeway and i started pressing the gas bus instead of accelerating, i start decelerating fast (65-0mph in 30secs without breaking) and when I pressed in my clutch it died. I had power still and it wanted to turn over but it sounded like one of the rotors wasn't carrying it's weight for the power I needed to build speed. It was shaky and just seemed unbalanced.

I'm thinking it might be bad coils to the spark plugs (which i'm hoping). Any knowledge in this area would be greatly appreciated.

well someones gotta say it i guess...have you checked your map sensor on the firewall?
if that gets disconnected you will experience exactly what you have described.
failing that, i think its either a coil, lead, misc vacuum line(unlikley i think) or bad news.

so I checked the map sensor and it's fine with the vaccum hose in great condition and connected on both ends. On to checking the ignition coils and plugs

UPDATE: Haven't got around to taking off my UIM just yet but i checked my plugs and the rear were fine but the front were covering in some oil and a little fuel after it's been sitting since Wednesday morning. Just thought i would give this info as to update anyone that came across this thread.

I would like to get this running again so I can figure out what the hell is up with my vacuum and turbo issue...if it's not one thing, it's another...after another etc etc lol

Interested on what you found, my car is doing the same thing. I changed the plug and wires over the weekend, then found out the battery is dead AGAIN! Charged it up and haven't have time to attempt to start it.

hopefully i will find out this week, if not today. The parts stores didn't have anything i needed over the weekend.

Oh and about the plugs that i pulled. The front plugs were wet and the rear were dry...don't know if that has anything to do with the problem at hand but I'm trying to give every little bit of info on this problem as I can give.

The FSM has details on how to test the coils.

Parts stores never have anything for this car. Get your parts from Ray Crowe at Malloy Mazda. His contact info is in the FAQ thread stickied in this forum.

Good luck.

I hate to say it, and I hope its not but...time for a compression test....

We all hate to go for the bad news side of the house first, but at least you will know and it will save you time chasing down other possible causes.

I'd pull the plugs to see if you're getting a good spark first though.
