Bad Battery I hope???
Bad Battery I hope???
I tried a search but couldn't come up with anything useful... The battery in my 93 Fd is about dead, after letting my car sit for a few days the battery completely discharges and has to be jumped off. Today I jumped it to go to Advanced to get a new battery. I got her to turn over but after that it would just bog and die. I was able to keep it running only by feathering the throttle. And even so it would eventually die. Ofcoarse it seems like a problem with the ignition not having enough spark but it seems like if just the battery was fouled then it would run fine after I get it turned over. Is it just the battery or should I fear something worse. I'll find out after work for sure but right now I am a tab aprehensive...
Thanks
Thanks
If your battery is old, it's probably time to get a new one. After you get the new battery, see how it goes. If it dies, you may have a problem with your charging system.

Change batteries asap. Your weak, unchargeable battery probably fried your alternator now. This happens when the alternator overworks itself trying to charge a dead battery.
That happened to me. I jumped for a new alternator, kept the old battery, and the new alternator fried. Replaced the alternator with the new battery and everything has been fine. My suggestion is to get a 3-5yr replacement battery from Walmart. It is a solid replacement policy that renews with every exchange.
Also, make sure that all the connections are solid and you CAN NOT see any wire that is connected to a lead. These spots bleed off power.
Good luck,
Raj

I vote to first check the connections to the battery, then to the alternator, then the battery, replace if necessary, and if its not that, check your alternator. I had mine rebuilt twice in a matter of about 8 months, which isn't super cheap but its one of those things that needs to be done (though not as expensive as a rebuild of course).
^^yeah
when you get the car running, check the battery terminals, should be about 14.6 or somewhere around there..
if you get that, then the alt is good, if not, then thats prob bad..but id def change the battery
