Backfiring Issue Help Please

whats up everyone, i got a stock FD, with an exhaust, cat back, and a grounding kit. 116 000k, and im getting some major backfiring

the idle is fluctuating and so is the vacuum, it is backfiring repetedly at idle and the backfires are quite rapid. what could be the cause? do alot of rotaries backfire?

it also seems to do it worse on deceleration and doesnt at all on acceleration

I changed the plugs and then fired up the car, it was in a shop so we had a rubber hose on the end of the exhaust.

the car was doing well when it started, the backfiring had slowed down and it wasnt doing it much at all, but as soon as it warmed up it started backfiring like crazy, and the exhaust was so hot that the rubber hose was smoking. could it be my timing out somehow? im going to do the wires tomorrow and hopefully that will help the problem, also, the old plugs were blackened like the car is running rich.

Make sure your wires are on the right plugs, since that's the last thing you did.

If wires on correctly then check TPS.

I'm not an expert myself, but from what i remember reading here, other then blown motor, bad igniton can cause backfire. backfire is a detonation of fuel in your exhaust which was not burned in your compression chamber. it will be better if you search for backfire in 3rd gen section. there is a lot of info already acumulated here
