Back from the grave. 2010 birth of my FD!

Hey guys, I know none of yall remember me, I joined the forum back in 07 when I got my project 93 FD and due to back luck with loosing a job + economy crash I had to hold off on bringing it to life. Now with my stable job I can go back to finishing it.

So here is the short scoop. I got a project FD 93 automatic with no engine no tranny. Right now looking for some contacts of couple of workshop I can take my project to and here is my follow up list:

1. Mechanic - Get to know the mechanic that will be working on this project, experience in AT to MT + engine installation + Other car parts in #3 (any south florida recommendations appreciated).
price: $???

2. Order the engine + tranny - found these websites to order engines (looking for the best price on a normal 13B 2 rotor)
13B-T S5 TURBO II
price: $1,399.00

13BTT RX-7
price: $$ 1,899.00

http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/details.php?id=3778
price: $1390

Not sure about ebay, need reliable source for engine. So any good prices you guys can find would be awesome.

3. Inner parts - Thinking of following the list that was posted on this link to put the FD up to date. (Any advice on this list appreciated).

https://www.rx7club.com/3rd-gen-archives-73/mt-swap-161482/

shifter = $200 you are on crack, $20 bucks for stock shifter
4:10 diff = $150
or just 5 speed companion plate (recommended) = $100 so i guess you added this price in also
drive shaft = $75
pedals = $100
clutch = $400
stock flywheel = $25
miscellaneous bolts (like bell housing bolts) = $10
manual ecu = $100 I didn't include this, because i was upgrading it anyway
new fluid (neo) = $75
boot leather = $20
**** = $20
instrument cluster = Not needed, but i got mine for $70
lightened flywheel (what I did) = Not Needed, plus you already added price for stock flywheel
clutch master = $20
Clutch slave = $20
SS clutch line = $10 at autozone
clutch pipes= $12
New tires, brake pads, ect.

4. Outer Body - I will hold off on this part until the first 3 are done. Body kit, Lambo doors, sound system can wait. Would love it looked something similar to this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NshZ80xxyI

So this is the list I will be following this coming year. any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated as well I will update my progress with my car.

haha, really? you think they would look bad or just silly for this car?
(Just figures it would lessen the dents on the side of them since you know FD have long side openings and for people to sit they need to open the door all the way...)

you're going in the completely wrong direction with this stuff bud. If I were you I would sell everything you got. Save up some money and get a running FD. Your projected costs are unrealistic and it will most likely cost more to do it as you are planning.

I agree with this man.

Sell everything you got and get a running, 5 SPEED FD. You'll save time, money and headaches. Remember FD's are really cheap now.

Hell i even saw a single silver FD with a 99 front a couple months ago going for 16???

My 2 cents: Estimate how much you think it's going to cost you total to get the car back on the road the way you want it. Multiply that by 2 and that's how much you are going to actually spend.

I thought my motor rebuild was going to be cheap but i just blew a coolant seal... well one thing leads to another and you end up changing plans. mine had practically brand new turbos... now im getting a rebuild and street port while its out, and its going single turbo. your going for a more stockish build, so your prob better off selling it and buying another one already. they are really resonably priced right now due to the economy.. or suck it up and old onto it and drop an ls1 into it. realible and fast as ****. just some more workk

if you need a mechanic for all this stuff, I would say it's better off to abandon the project, sell the car, get money buy a decent FD

I can agree to the satisfaction in doing your own rebuild/restore/project but if youre bringing it to a shop, thats a different story, just buy a running one...

same boat. one little "let me upgrade/update this" leads to endless mods... but the ls1 isnt the right solution either (i originally was gonna do that) but costs doing that right add up VERY fast.

+1, or atleast if youre willing/have friends that know how to fix you might be able to give it a shot... but if you dont plan to do any work yourself... triple your estimated cost.....

If you need a great shop to help you with the build you should check out Banzai Racing, I have been working with them for years. Banzai can Build you a 13B or 20B. If you decide to go with a 13B then they can keep your automatic trans if you want. Banzai is the first and I believe the only to make a wiring patch so you can single turbo your auto FD.
It will be totally worth the trip up to Indiana for you.
Good luck with the build, Joe

+1

I wonder why you have a 13b turbo engine from a FC on your list?

Also i heard tiger japenese isn't a good source to get a engine to drop in unless your going to rebuild the engine before you drop it in.

Tiger Japanese is known for selling blown longblocks, with a 30 day warranty 99% of people will never get the engine installed or tested within that time frame so the warranty doesnt apply. Spend a lot of time searching and make wise decisions. A $1900.00 j-spec longblock is a ticking time bomb in most cases. There are a few good success stories but more failures than anything else.

Good luck, search my user name and auto/manual swap if you havent already. I have layed out the simplest way to do the swap.

yea seen that pic catch-22 lol, funny. Thanks djseven, will add your prices to my list.

thanks guys, thats really great advice. Na DMoney, dream aignt poofed yet. Im making couple of phone calls to get price estimates along with sponsorships (discount) to then consider continuing with this FD or selling it and just buying one thats running. Honestly looking like selling it and getting one running MT might go the cheaper way to get one on running standards.

I'll see n let yall know.

Haha. I was just messing with ya crunshii.

Having an FD that is already MT would really help your expenses and the amount of work you will have to put into it.

sponsorships? you are dreaming!

you know you don't have to swap it to manual to get performance out of these cars. We've got several automatic folks now rolling around +350hp with no problems. my .2$

ALSO: " pedals = $100" Try around 350.00

Oh not me meng lol life is too short, so you just better have a good time with whoever you bump into. even cranky rx7 fanatics.

You wouldnt believe how much fun my friends make of me for the past 3 years cuz I have a nice car that can't run. This picture would pretty much sum it up.
