Talking Back in Biz, just purchased my new FD

So 18 months after selling my last beloved FD I brought another one.

Its a red Type R ( thats an R2 to all you US folk)

Body is in very good shape, just a cracked headlight cover, Interior is mint, even has brand new looking factory floor mats.

I have brought it to race ( circuit or strip, dont know yet) so its a non compliable car ( cannot be road registered ).

Its got a fan controller,HKS exhaust , Greddy turbo timer, mazdaspeed oil cap, hugh frikken head unit with remote and deep dish Volk 17's with gold centres and polished lips, also a brand new Exedy clutch. The best thing is I oly paid NZ$4500 ( about $3450 US ) so its a steal really.

Problems -
The owner installed the new clutch , took it for a joyride and says he blew the primary turbo under heavy load , he said it was pulling hard and suddenly lost power, he immediatly pulled over and there was heaps of white smoke coming from the turbo area under the bonnet. He put it into storage and it has sat there for 5 months until I started her up the other day.
She started straight away ( after a battery boost ) and actually idled really good, there was a bit of white smoke out the exhaust at first but that dissapeared after 3-5mins and there was no smoke under the bonnet at all.
I connected a boost gauge to the UIM and after warmed up she sat at around 11in,HG, she didnt miss a beat in idle but when giving it a little gas she popped a little.
I looked at coolant and thought I saw rust but it was actually red coolant ( du-oh)

With my limited experience I personally think the engine is fine but hey at the end of the day for 4.5K I'm not complaining. Worst come to worse i could easily part her out for more than that , the Volks along would fetch 2k with tyres.
I pick her up next saturday, will post pics then. Cheers.

oh thats right, sorry I forgot to mention, when the car is running there is one hell of a loud mooing or droning noise, like an owl but through a subwoofer coming form the turbo area. Is that a blown primary?

Whether it be $4.5k AUD or USD, you got one hell of a deal. Even if it's blown, you still got one hell of a deal.

A lot of initial condensation based white smoke is common if it hasn't been started in a good while. Though, the 11 in-hg concerns me. Healthy motors usually pull in the neighborhood of 16->18in-hg at around stock idle/stock ports. Though it could be something simple like a blown turbo or a vac leak somewhere, it could be something much worse.

Best of luck to you. It's nice to see you fell right back into the addiction.

Wow, congratulations on the car - you got a hell of a deal. Did the car come with those Volk GT-Ps? Because if it did, then your buy became the deal of the century.

yeah it came with those wheels, I get the car transporter this saturday and pick it up so lets just say saturday night is going to be 18 months worth of built up anticipation.

I went and brought a cheap single turbo setup yesterday , its a series 5 turbo thats been rebuilt 1000ks ago and high flowed with a manifold and custom down pipe that'll bolt straight up ( came from my mates crashed FD )
. I'm still not 100% sure if the engine is healthy so I got something cheap to blot up ( after discarding the blown twins ) to test her out.
