i just recently out in a new engine. i reused the old turbos because they were in great condition. the cars been sitting for about 2 months and i went to crank it this afternoon and heard an awful screeching noise. it sounds like its coming from the secondary turbo, but im not sure, the car is also having a hard time starting. i out a new battery in because the old one was dead. i checkedthe battery and the alt, and they are both fine. i just want to get my car back on the road asap. if anyone has any tips please let me know. thanks

 

is the car cranking over at all? Are you sure you installed the starter correctly?

 

yeh its turning over fine and it actually started for about a second then turned right back off

 

is it a metal on metal sound?

 

We definitely need more details. Make a video perhaps?

 

BOth of my rebuilds had a horrible screeching sound when i first started them. I dont know what it was, but they both still run great, and one is running 15psi on twins and tracked on a regular basis.

 

Who built the motor? Did they use assembly lube?

 

Are you sure the screeching isn't coming from the (loose?) alternator belt? This would fit with starting problems and battery replacement.

 

well i got it to start today. the noise sounds like its metal on metal and is coming from behind the intake manifold on the passengers side. but its so loud that i cant tell if its coming from the turbo or the trans. its also idling around 1500 2000 and blowing like a gray smoke. but i think thats another issue. thanks
