Autometer Temp Sender 18 TPI -> 19 TPI Concerns?

Hi all;
Im in the process of fitting an Autometer Electrical Temperature Guage to the 3/8" Tap in the top of the water/coolant filler neck (like so many others have done before me!).

I was getting my dad to give me a hand with it (ex mech engineer), and he basically almost HAD KITTENS! when i went to screw the 3/8" mounting adapter into the thermo housing because he reckons that the threaded plug that was initially in the housing was 3/8" 19 TPI (thread per inch) and the brass adapter plug autometer gave me was 3/8" 18 TPI.

Now i dont know if there is any difference in the threading on my car (jap import to aus) in relation to the cars you guys get in the US (there shouldnt be), but i was mearly wondering has anyone else noticed this when they have gone to fit the autometer adapter to their thermo housing, or had any trouble fitting it at all??

All the threads on the car should be metric, not standard, as the Autometer sender will be.

Not sure what type of thread that plug is - haven't had to mess with it yet .

I remember it fit rather tightly, but I was using several wraps of teflon tape, and pipe taps typically take some grunt to get in place. But the english-metric fit would make sense - it's def. not a glassy smooth engagement.
