Now funnily enough, automatics are coming back in a BIG way in the supercars from Mercedes, BMW, Aston Martin, Jaguar, etc. In Europe these days you are considered pathetic if you have to shift with anything other than your fingertips!

You know, I guess these cars were okay to be putted around in by ladies, but...when pushed even moderately hard they are a handful, especially in the wet. Due to the initial lack of response you have a tendancy to push harder on the go-pedal, and what happens is the turbos will kick in hard and put you sideways if you aren't ready for the power.
73% seems high though.......although Mazda's pricing definitely alienated the people that were nominally the 'core' group of purchasers. I know I paid just under $18K for my '86 FC and then got the sticker shock of my life when I went and saw $35K on a new FD in '93!
