Automatic 1/4 Mile times
Automatic 1/4 Mile times
I have search but come up with nothing. Dose anyone know what they ran from the factory? What do you guys on here run with mods? I have owned mine for about 5 months now just haven't made it to the track yet.

Does someplace make a high stall torque converter for the 3rd gen autos? If so what kind of times are people running?

The major problem w/ the auto fd re 1/4 mile times though is the 3.90 rear end and Higher (then the 5spd) first gear. For good 1/4 mile time you really need to drop the rear end ratio to 4.30 or higher.

From what I know Level Ten is the only place that will do something. I have called just about everyone to build a custom converter and everyone said no. I have had one done by a shop up here but, it didn't last too long. (Broke going down highway @ 60)
Just to bring this thread back from the past. Skip at KD rotary told me they found a supplier for high stall converters custom built for the RX7.
Just thought it might be worthless info to some of you Auto guys.

The only MAJOR problem I see with my (our) auto FD's..... is that it takes about 1.5 - 2 full seconds before it really starts to accelerate hard (at least with mine) off the line. I think that's where we lose the capability of dipping into the high 12's ..or low 13's. OTHERWISE, the auto fd (at least mine) is pretty f*#@ing fast.
A "holeshot type" stall converter and lower rear-end gears would be a HUGE plus!! just my .02.

well what, call them about it. I just asked while I was up there, and they told me they know of a few places.
LOL...... At least with a stall, you could build the boost up at take off like the GN's do.

actually I have the levelten torque converter. It's a different unit, not a modified stock one. However, you can't buy these anymore. Not worth the money from a performance standpoint IMO. Stock stall is 3K, L10 stall 3.5K. They told me anything higher would not be streetable. From a reliability standpoint? Who knows, still running ok after 5K+ miles on a single turbo. Had it rebuilt with their rebuild kit as well. I am nowhere near KD Rotary, but I would still like to have options other than levelten, as I had some issues with their customer service. I had hoped for something along the lines of Art Carr, or a bell housing adapter. I have been kicking around the idea of a hurst roll control to lock up the front brakes for boost off the line, but it says it is not for cars with ABS.
