Auto to Manual Wiring Q

Ive searched and searched and I have found quite a few threads but my question is can you use the stock auto wireing harness with the manual ecu?
Cover8 was going on and on about it and I understood it but then someone said they just plugged in the manual ecu into the stock harness and it did fine.

So my question again is does this work? Im not worried if the manual harness will work better I just need to know if the auto one will work for now.

Thanks

I know you have to have the ecu but im talking about the wiring harness.

Ive heard you need the engine harness but that wont connect to the dash harness or the front harness so you need those too. (somthing like that)

But then someone said they just plugged in the manual ecu into the auto harness and it worked just fine.

Thats what Im wondering.

I've got all the parts for the swap, and I'll be doing it fairly soon. I've got both the ECU and the harnesses, but from what I've seen so far, there are only a few wiring issues that need to be worked out, mainly with the neutral saftey switch and reverse lights. Aside from that, the manual ECU will work with the automatic harness.

Now, I haven't finished the swap, so don't take this to be 100% true, but everything that I've seen thus far seems to indicate that it is.

Let me know how the swap goes. Im planning on doing this in a few weeks and I really want a step by step on this.

This site has the removal of the auto but stops where you start putting in the manual.

Im looking for something like this but the finished product.

Thanks

Do you have a copy of the Field Service Manual? Everything you could want to know is pretty much in there.

ejmack1, what was your experience with the wiring? Did you have any issues other then the neutral saftey switch or reverse lights? Any other weird things to think of ahead of time?

Did you have to change out the harness to do the swap? If so why? Whats different?

you dont have to change out the harness at all. In all honesty you dont need the neutral switch, reverse switch, 1-2 gear switch, or clutch switch. In order for the car to work you just have to bypass the clutch switch. Now i did eventually hook up the reverse switch in order to get my reverse lights to work. If you look at the wiring harness it is all pretty straight forward.

Thanks alot thats just the info I needed. That seems like the hardest part of the swap and to know I dont need to do it is a big relief.
Thanks again.

Yes you can use the auto harness with a manual ecu. I have all switches hooked up. You should be able to hook up everything. My mechanic did all the work,so i can't tell you anything but it is possible. I told my mechanic that i didn't need 1st and 2nd switch, but he wanted to hook them up ,since mazda has there for some reason. He told me that that the 1st and 2nd switch has something to do with the timing in 1st and 2nd gear. I notice when i'm in nuetral and put the car in first, the rpms go up 200 rpms and vacuum increase by 2.

If you want my mechanic is in Venice , FL. He does the work at his house.I had him do the swap the right way.
guage cluster
new ACT clutch and 9 lb flywheel
short shifter
manual differential
manual driveshaft
clutch pedal and brake
5 speed ecu
i also had him install new shocks and brake job

I supplied the parts and he charged me 1000 in labor.
Took alittle longer than i wanted, but it was done right.
