Authenticity of an M2 ECU.....

So then I bought a slightly used M2 ECu Stage 3, one of the newer ones, and I how would I check to see if it's the real deal or not?

The box is flat silver, with yellow connectors on one side. On the sticker it says the following things:

1. DENSO
2. N3E1
3. E G I
4. N3E1 18 881

I was told to open up the box and take a look at it, but what do I look for?

Thanks.

Hey Dan, how's it going?

M2 really should put a sticker around the ecu like Pettit does....

Anyway, open it up, there should be a visible daughterboard added to the ecu (thanks to Alex (alwan16) for the pic):

Sup sup Tyler, thanks for the help. So I opened up my box and have the following characters:

M20005 and M20016

The picture says: MM05 and MM16.

Am I good to go?

Yep. They changed their name from Mostly Mazda to M2, hence the change from MM to M2 on the chips...

Good stuff man. However as for installing the bad boy, I read stories how people have installed this ECU and then blow their motors.... what gives? I thought it's suppose to improve overall performance?

You'll be fine. Just verify with your boost gauge that you are running 12 psi with the M2 ecu installed. People that blow their motors with these chips are most likely running a lot of mods at higher than recommended boost levels. Obviously though, if you are making more power, you ARE reducing the lifespan of the engine, but the M2/Pettit ecus are safe upgrades.

I run a M2 stage III ECU, 1 yr no problems. I ran only 10psi for longevities sake but that didn't save my coolant seals...

Just keep the boost reasonable and you'll be fine.

Yo Jeff thanks for the input. What improvements will yield if you only keep it at stock boost levels? Even though it's suppose to allow to boost higher, will it decrease motor life THAT bad if brought up to 12psi?

THanks.

If you wind up your boost too high, the stock injectors will max out their duty cycle. Thats when you lean out & pop the engine.

N3E1... sounds like the last of the series-6 (92-95) ECU's before the next version. In other words. A 95 spec ECU

This is a little off topic but did M2 go out of business? I have tried to call there 3 times in the past month and no one answers or returns my call.
