hi everyone, i'm a new member to the rx7 club. i've always loved these cars, ever since i got into cars in general. i'm 17 and am looking for a rx-7 and i found one on ebay priced at 17k (buy it now). it's in excellent condition and the carfax reports are evident. what do you think? oh yeah, and the insurance will probably have my mom disagree.

If you have an extra 10k lieing around go for it. Otherwise... I would recommend against it.

An RX7 is a great car, but probably is the biggest pain in the *** to maintain. You need time and money. 17 tousand is a bit much(unless its moded). If you look around you can find a nice 93/94 for about 13/14 grand. I recommend www.cars.com

you should attack the link....How many miles does it have. For 17k you should be getting a realitively low mileage rx7.

Good point T88 if it has low milage then yes may be, and if it is in good condition. If you are VERY new to RX7's the rotary engine blows at about 100k. So an RX7 with 70k miles isnt a honda with 70k. 70k mile RX7 wont last you much longer then a year or 2. And forget about driving hard in the Rain or driving at all in snow(Rear Wheel drive).

If this is your first car then I wouldn't recommend it. It's a big jump. Especially if you haven't driven a rear wheel drive car before. I just don't want to see yet another 7 get trashed. It's such a sad sight.

do you have a link?

you can also find them on autotrader.com

i found mine on autotrader/here for $16.5k and i could definitely see it selling for a lot more...

if you dont want too much pain, i suggest doing what i did and ONLY consider a car that is stock/low miles OR new engine/reliably modded... buying a car with an engine that is almost gone is not a good deal... your going to spend so much money just to have it be able to even run...

Find one with low miles, put on a downpipe (only), be meticulous with maintenance. You should be ok.

You're right, the insurance will probably kill you.

Just to give you an idea, insurance on my first 3rd gen at age 18 was 285 a month. This, coupled with the 400 a month loan payment and maintenance costs, drove me into working two jobs. I loved every minute of it.

Also, I understand where Scrub is coming from. I wasnt experienced or mature enough when I purchased my first 3rd gen (though I certainly thought I was at the time). It lasted 11 months before dancing with a concrete guard rail and an 18 wheeler at 90 mph. Such a terrible sight..

I just paid 17.5 for mine. But it is a 94 PEP with 28k original miles. Never even driven in the rain.
