Honestly, I have no idea what caused it.

I just got off the phone with Jeff and I'm bringing in my car over the weekend. He's taking a look at it on Monday.

Luckily I have my cousin's 91 na to scoot around in for the upcoming week.

Dude I'm sorry but at least you got it out before you engine became a puddle of plastic and metal.

I'm glad that things were not as bad as it could have been.....I do like the "J" pose you did by your car after the fire was out.

Good luck rebuilding...sorry.

Thanks for all the support everyone.

Hopefully it won't be off the street for too long. I still have the thermal flex hoses to install, so if my stock ones melted-I'm alright so far.

It's actually kinda funny. I gotta laugh now before it hits my bank acct.

Plus it gives me new sig material.

very sorry to hear that Masta Cow.

I'm glad you're going to rebuild it instead of totalling it out like I've seen some do. Good luck with it. Hopefully Monday's report won't be too grim.

Again, good luck.

I'm just hoping the engine's wiring harness isn't damaged. Honestly, not sure what to expect. But I figure no matter what, I NEED this car back up and running. I just enjoy driving it too much.

In the fourth pic you seem to be taking it pretty well. I'd be crying so hard that little girls would be calling me a baby.

Well at least you have a decent attitude about it.

I'd be worried about the wiring and electronics. Smoke from fires contains acids that coat EVERYTHING and when humidity gets to it, it corrodes copper to green powdery mush and shorts out PC boards.

I just found a fuel leak in my single turbo last night at my aftermarket fuel pressure reg.

Luckily, it's mounted kinda hanging in the middle of nowhere so when it leaks, it drips down onto the ground without hitting anything hot or any wires. Anyone know for sure what sealer to use on AN fittings? right now I'm using some pipe sealer that doesn't harden... is this the wrong stuff?

Brian (fire extinguisher should be at my house today!)
Don't use any sealer. AN fittings are designed to be used by themselves. If it leaks just tighten them. If it still leaks replace the fittings.

Thankfully, I managed to get the fire out before it got out of hand. Fire Dept wisely decided not to spray it with water to minimize the damage.

As for the attitude...<shrug> I figure my crying won't bring it back, so might as well see this as an opportunity to fix all the little nagging stuff.

So are you gona come out ahead in the long run? What Im trying to say is that a lot of oem stuff cost just as much as better aftermarket products.
Dude you shoulda let it burn a little longer, that way you could of got a new bumper, 99 spec turn lights, new head lights, new paint. CONSIDERING you have insurance............but I know it was a big rush and with people around its just not realistic to let it burn longer........
Sorry 2 hear the bad news. Hope you have insurance and your pemium is not 500.00 like mine is...

I'm doing this out of pocket. I cheaped out and was only covered for liability.

I don't want this to be a long term project anyhow =) And I feel better knowing that the stuff I do for my car is from my work, instead of insurance.

I've seen 2 FD fires in two months...maybe I will get a fire extinguisher now.

Good luck with the FD mastacow...I pray that you won't need it however and everything goes smoothly.

damn, i hope all goes well. you may want to take a look at your differential when you get things back together. i know that cars with LSD's are not to be towed with rear wheels on the ground over 25mph. anything over that can hurt it. should have opted for a flat bed. good luck bud.

$500?

I sure hope so.

I already know I need a new brake reservoir. A hole melted in it, as well as some other components. I sense an efini Y-pipe in my near future.

But yeah- "engine fire" sounds worse than it looks. My friend was freaking out until he actually looked inside.
