AST Removal

So basically, what I've done is remove the stock rad cap and base, and put on a FC's cap and base, plugged the nipple on the water neck, and plugged the nipple on the bottom of the rad. Then from the FC's base I rad a 3/8th hose to the over flow tank.

Sounds good?

Sounds good.
FWIW, I dremeled off the filler neck nipple then drilled and tapped the hole for an NPT plug. Looks a little better and IMO, less likely to leak.

Just make sure you have no air in it. You can rent the funnel kit from autozone for free to make sure it's all out...

What I did is instead of plugging those 2 holes I just run the hose from the radiator to the nipple on the housing, I did this so that way if there is any air in the radiator it still has a way out.

Old thread bump .

I did the same thing as you Kai. Just wondering if this is a proper solution to the air issue?

The hose leading from the housing goes to the bottom of the radiator, not really where you're likely to find trapped air. And granted it's not very big, but wouldn't it also present a by-pass to the radiator....allowing coolant to (essentially) return right back into the motor?

I have just done mine.I also retained the hose from the bottom of the radiator to the t-stat housing.I fabricated a piece of SS pipe basically to replace the ast and fitted a plug with a 0.089in hole(yes I measured the size of the hole in the ast).I will post apic later.

Not sure if it is the proper solution but I have been running it this way for the last six years and the engine is still running strong, even with the single...
